Byrr's Eldritch Battery Ethreal Knife Shadow

Thanks to Byrr for sharing the passive skill layout and to everyone for suggestions and showing the changes they made.

I started with the original build in the first post, but just a few minutes ago I decided to use all my respec points (and one Regret, total like 17 points changed) to pick up Iron Reflexes. I followed the path benkitteh linked a few posts up, and went from under 4k armor to just under 15k. I play solo and mostly use gear I find myself so it's not as high as it could be, but still a huge improvement.

I was a little hesitant to drop a total of 19% cast speed from passives, but as you can see in my gear below I am still using a Faster Casting gem and I find it's still enough for me. Having a blue socket lets me switch out an Item Rarity gem when I farm also. In the future I might add a quality Culling Strike which will give damage and cast speed.

Spoiler

My current gear at 84 if anyone is curious. Hoping to pick up a better 5 link chest soon. I also really really need a new amulet :D But the double mana regen helps a lot.

Oh and if the items above get messed up it's because I switch around quantity and rarity gear a lot :)

Wouldnt it be more beneficial to wear pure EV instead of AC gear with IR?

no wear whatever you find, or very end-game wear armor/ev since it will be higher stat than pure ev. could also wear whatever depending on which socket colors you need.
After starting this build a few weeks ago I finally broke top 100 HC (though I lost it again at work today lol). Thanks for the people who gave advice along the way and byrr for the build!
Currently sitting at 5.6k hp, 20k armor with determ up, and about 5.7k EK's with a .60 cast time. Mana regen = 110 per sec so I dont have to use leech. Next step is to work on raising my pitiful chaos resist and trying to get some more mana regen for them 50% maps. Also need to work on quality gems and getting my mana pool up a little.

Hi Furl, some nice stats and gear you have there. I wanted to suggest for half regen and even no regen if you want to try, is swapping Iron Will for a Blood Magic gem. Be sure to level up the Blood Magic first though. Your Life Leech gem will cover the cost of your casting, just be sure to keep it in mind before trying to tank a lot of mobs / high damage mobs.

Also think about getting some high quality gems. If you feel your damage is ok already, then I'd suggest quality Life Leech first. It gives 1% increased leech rate per quality, 20% at 20 is really amazing and definitely worth getting.

Have fun.
Is there a video of this build?
I actually thought about BM for regen maps - but with 5 auras its sort of risky. Now, at lvl 85 with all 3 regen nodes that kitteh took I am able to out regen 50% regen maps and spam without mana leech. I use 2 mana regen rings and have about 150 mana regen per second. Appreciate your input though!
Been following this thread and actually made an EK shadow of my own, following the updated build. Currently level 65 and running pretty smoothly, but since I'm closing in on the IR keystone I've started to question the route avoiding ranger area.

So I sat down to make a build which goes through the Ranger area, dumping Inner Force nodes and using the additional passive points I get to up my defences. When done, I actually took my build and reworked it to match the stats of Benkitteh's build. This was done to compare them both in efficiency. Here's the results:

My Stats:
194 Str
152 Int
262 Dex
19% Spell Damage
9% Cast speed
30% Crit Chance
278% Max Life
20 static life
16% Chaos Res
36% Max Mana
80% Mana Reg
40% Armor/EV
82% Armor
20% Reduced Skill cost
2,5% Life Regen
10% block chance
80% Increased Shield Def
23% projectile damage

Benkitteh's stats:
244 Str
192 Int
162 Dex
19% Spelldamage
9% cast speed
30% crit chance
268% Max Life
20 static life
16% Chaos res
36% Mana
120% Mana reg
40% Armor/EV
82% Armor
20% Reduced Skill cost
2,5% Life Regen
30% buff effect
24% projectile damage

Going from Benkitteh's build to mine:
-50 Str
-40 Int
+100 Dex
+10% Maximum Life
-40% Mana Regen
-1% Projectile Damage
-30% Buff Effect (This is ofc the big one)
+10% Block Chance
+80% Defence from shields

Now, looking at the final part, we exchange some mana and manareg for more evasion(armor) through Dex and the extra life is quite equal to the loss in str. What it really comes down to is the final three.

Is the extra block and shield defence enough to pass up the Inner Force nodes or are those just too OP to skip? And yes, I am aware of the 5 main auras getting buffed in addition to granite flasks etc. The new route also contain additional lifenodes and shieldnodes if you want to focus on that past the 106 used passive points.

Hi Tapeworm,

Currently at 84 I have 4604 armor rating for 23% physical damage reduction without buffs. With Determination and Grace on I have 15235 armor and 49% reduction. This is with level 20 Grace and 19 Determination.

I've never played with a high block chance character but my feeling is I would rather have a guaranteed reduction to incoming physical damage as well as reflected physical damage (which can't be blocked).
