1.3 [Newbie Friendly] GROUNDSLAMMER BUILD

@Ninja

Yeah, I did some math on it too (like, probably half guesswork on some of the specifics of the damage mechanics) and came up with similar results. My Heavy Strike ended up being something like 11% better instead of your 27%. Either way, Heavy Strike is still better. I think Infernal could be more damage if you're in a group and the explosive aoe effect gets to proc on a lot of mobs. In that situation though, it still probably wouldn't be as much damage as Ground Slam, so it's sort of a moot point.

Just for kicks, I did the same thing with Glacial Hammer. In my calculations, Glacial Hammer with Added Fire Damage is 20% worse than Heavy Strike. But, if you do Glacial Hammer with Added Fire Damage and Cold to Fire it was only 12% worse than Heavy Strike which puts it pretty much at the same damage as Infernal Blow. A little bit less. It will take an extra linked red, but if you really want to use Glacial Hammer with Lava Lash, using Cold To Fire seems to be the way to do it.

I do think it is possibly worth noting that my calculations with +40% elemental damage factored in from Catalyze and one +10% node DOES put Infernal Blow just barely higher than Heavy Strike with Glacial still trailing behind. I mean, it's sort of like you're using 3 extra passive points just for the sake of using Infernal of Glacial instead of Heavy Strike. Heavy Strike being already perfectly powerful, though so it's really kind of like a waste. And if you're going to do that, then why not spec fully into elemental damage and use a different weapon and different skills? It's really a slippery slope to a completely different build. Still though, an interesting thought experiment, I think.

I'm looking at building with End Charges while dropping some dmg (the bottom section with 18% two hand, 4% ias, and the 15% stun which i dont care about) and a little life.

Spoiler

I also moved some branches around for end charges.
I also figure 6x charges * 0.2% regen = 1.2% regen.

But I dropped Blood Drinker. I'm not sure how much it helps. If I want to add it back on, I'd drop 8% HP. Is that worth getting Blood Drinker? I swear I've seen weapons with 2% leech, so why even bother with the keystone?
When it comes to life leech and life on hit, I feel they are useful, but they will eventually benefit you so little you could un-link the support gems and respec out of blood drinker.

Just factor in how much life you are getting per hit, and compare it to your health regen stat. If you get around 60 health per second, and your combined life gain per target is around 30, That's a pretty decent boost. If you're getting around 60 but your regen is over 200, perhaps you would be better served by respecing out and replacing some or all of the support gems.

For those times i use leap slam. Sweep sucks...
And those are usually weak, white critters, you don't need LoH for 'em, so you can add i.e. added fire damage to your ground slam

leap away from the mob surrounding you?
or just leap in same spot to dmg mob?

Don't leap at the same place. Enemies can still hit you while you are in the middle of the animation. I tend to jump back and forth from one place to another. Really helpful when facing large groups of ranged enemies as you're not just standing in one place giving them plenty of good shots.

I'm currently lvl 49 in act 3 cruel and so far this build has served me more than well -- in fact, normal diff was a breeze to solo -- but these damn chaos-spitting snakes that are everywhere in the slums are a major pain.

I'm dealing about 1.3k dps with heavy strike, and about half of that with ground slam. does that sound about right for my level?

and another thing, in normal difficulty, I took the passive point reward instead of +40 life from Oak. was this a bad mistake on my part, and if so, how bad?

ahh.. so if surrounded by a zoo, leap away, then leap back but infront of zoo. then use ground slam? rinse/repeat if surrounded again?
got a non-magical onyx amulet +20% all stats (which is the max for this amulet).

should i use an orb to make it yellow rare?
or use orb of chance to try to get a unique?
or just make it blue magical?

Why do you suggest that choice?

thx
I am trying to build a tanky marauder similar to this guide just with lightning strike instead.

The OP mentions that LS requires a completely different passive tree. Can someone give me a link to that ?
