Definition of spike dmg. Please GGG take a look at this

At 3/45/48 ... hits him for 3/4 of his ES, he has 10k+ Thats about 7500 after mitigations WTF? Mods are vuln (level 14 = 31% more) and ~90% extra lightning dmg I see a bear with powerful crits and a nearby 50% phys aura vulture This is CI character, his armor is either nonexistent, or even with the party buffs kind of armor ... seeing how much he got hit for ... its effectiveness was marginal at best. So let us ignore it for the time being. I think normal crits from mobs are 150% like players. And 5% crit chance. Powerful crits mod prolly gives them a higher crit chance (substantial like 33% +) and 200% + crit multi. That had to be a crit ... Lets say a bear rare hits for 1k phys average With the aura 1500 His crit now is 3k With vuln its around 4k OK ... afaik, extra cold / fire / lightning dmg on map mod takes anything physical (spell or attack) and straight up turns an extra % of that listed into the element. Vuln wouldnt work on this though, we are stuck at the 3k part of the calculation. 90% of 3k = 2700, with 75% res thats about 675 damage. IF we assume he was triple shock stacked, thats 4000 + 675 x 1.9 = 4675 x 1.9 = 8882 damage We are somewhat there. Probably 2x shock stacks. And the armor. And vuln actually stacks with shocks, not multiplicative with it as I made it. They are both 'increased damage taken'. Since he is CI, he could have easily gotten triple shock stacked in no time before the bear hit him, since there were other mobs around. GGG, I think this kind of damage scaling is absolutely ridiculous. The map could have also had -max res, monster damage, and the bear could have had extra fire, cold, and extra damage itself. How hard is it to bb code links with url tags?
Very few on these forums seem to understand basic forum use, and I for one, won't copy/pasta because you are too lazy to /url. Many lewt. Much desync. Such rewarding. Wow. According to forum mods "sandwich" is considered an offensive word. Who knew? Last edited by Robert_Paulson#5467 on Dec 27, 2013, 9:11:06 AM

Well I watched the vid and it looked like several of them got hit with quite big hits, so maybe it wasn't a crit?
Maybe the base damage is just higher than you thought, and they were on a very high level map, with room to get tankier, I don't see why its a problem that they have to play careful against one of the hardest hitting non unique mobs in the game with powerful crits, shock and vulnerability... |

Are you kidding OP?
You think its too much damage? jeez... Its Nemesis league with a big-ars dog and some other shit. Death should and does remain a possibility in this game at all times. Currently Etup is 97 (guessing those he's mapping with are in their 90's too) why do you want there to be no threat? Or is this one of those 'I want difficult things but spike damage is just a gear check and difficulty should come from AI' and then have no idea to put on the table. Part of the rush of this game is the fact you can die. Its why we play Nemesis. Otherwise you just have yourself invincible toons running around for what? The big desync bomb? Personally, I'd die a glorious death to that dog than become bored with an invincible character. ps. Nothing personal :p Just for try for see and for know -2013!

" I dont care lol " Tell me you are joking, as if everyone has 10k hp / es so easily. And I play nemesis too. And thats not even the worst it could have gotten. If it wasnt bobslop who took the hit, there would have been a rip. And I didnt say I want the game to be easy. That rare monster hit harder than a dominus touch of god, lol. Stupider than that, it cannot get. POE is like this: faceroll 99.999 % of mobs, and die to a stupid spike that surprises you out of the blue, even if you are wearing the sickest gear. You enjoy that or think its balanced? I dont. Last edited by theamazingjojo#6642 on Dec 27, 2013, 11:23:18 AM

" Rare monsters get random mods, so of course it has the possibility of a extremely hard monster. But hey, Diablo 2 had monsters with immunities, and a lot of times things like "Lightning Enchanted, Multiple projectiles, Immune to physical, Immune to cold". At least all the monster are killable in POE, they may kill you first if you're not careful, but at least they can die. |

Most people may not have 10k health pool... but chances are they aren't doing 78 maps either (assume it's courtyard), nevermind with tough mods. And as you and others pointed out, it was an unusually dangerous situation too, with extra damage aura, crit aura, and very hard hitting monsters to begin with.
As far as "spike that surprises you out of the blue," I certainly don't see that. The people in that group seem well aware it's a dangerous situation, and well before getting hit. Among other things, someone calls crit aura. If you're doing a map like that and not paying attention, sure, you'll probably die, but I don't think that's a fault in the game. Also, vulnerability is multiplicative with shock stacks (and anything else) for physical damage. The increased damage part is DoTs. IGN: Victario

1 shot mechanics is just a Pseudo Difficulty in place of what could be a true strategy based difficulty... for example... the Vaal fight.
If you play smart he wont hit you but can 1 shot most players who arent paying attention (in the level range of the area)... This provides players with a way to use strategy.. not Hey guys i have max block every life node i could get 15k armour and 7 endu charges and get 1 shot by random rare. Thats just bullshit. And the reason HC is pointless, its the cherry on top of Desync why alot of players dont play HC. "I became insane, with long intervals of horrible sanity." - Edgar Allan Poe

If you're frequently getting one-shot by random rares, you're doing something wrong.
If once in a thousand or ten thousand maps something one-shots you, chances are there was still some way to avoid or mitigate or deal with it (as was obviously the case here). But the alternative, unless you have some suggestion on how to make every white mob work like Vaal (and Vaal can already be dangerous with desync, be sure to fill out a will if every mob is like that), is to make everything easy. Then one in a thousand times you'll take a bit of damage (but not enough to die, certainly wouldn't want the game to work like that!), and the other 999 you'll faceroll. IGN: Victario

So, bear + low armour, vulerability, increased physical damage, shock, powerful crits = huge spike? I don't really see what the issue is here.
