why vaal pact?? :P

LeMing's comment in the past was that Vaal Pact was in use rather than relying on life Regen.

LGoH only applies to the Barrage Projectiles and not to the EK projectiles.

Best possible regen from LGoH = 54 * 12 (Barrage + Chain) = 648 HP per cast. This will likely be more than enough in most cases however it will not provide immunity to Physical Reflect or Lightning Thorns. Elemental Reflect shouldn't be as big an issue due to damage from Hatred being lower.

Vaal Pact + Life Leech means even if you're taking reflect/thorn damage you will also be getting instant life to negate or at least decrease the damage being taken from those sources.

Careful playing will keep you save from Reflect/Thorns, however Vaal Pact + LL will be more forgiving.

oke that does make sense thx for the info!
bud at what level would you recommend to take it? or what stage?
when i start mapping or should i do it now already?.

I didn't realize Firestorm could chain. Do you like it better than Fireball?

I'm experimenting with casting Immortal Call on Damage taken. So far it's saved my butt on surprise big hits but I haven't seen yet whether or not it works on Reflect. Anyone know?

I would suggest getting Vaal Pact before you switch to LL, unless you could particularly benefit from the added leech (even if not instant). If LGoH is enough for you at the moment then keep using it until you can get LL to be instant (i.e a superior LGoH).

Once I get a 5L I'm going to start using it on my Shadow (Have all points except the last one in Vaal Pact so just need to respec or level up once). Other than Reflect or some elemental damage dealers I haven't had any real need for it, or for LGoH up until now.

It's not obvious to me why you say that this build is impossible to play from level 1. Why is using ST better than just using EK from the beginning?

You can do it either way, just depends on your play style.

Starting with EK:
- Good Cone-AoE damage
- Works with Fork to increase Damage
- Slow Cast Speed
- Skill-Tree does not assist in improving cast speed

Starting with ST:
- Good line damage
- Cone-Damage when using LMP
- Based on Attack Speed
- Skill-Tree provides attack speed increases (increases DPS)

In isolation EK is probably stronger, however when combined with Attack speed from skill tree ST becomes stronger. Of course a lot of the Attack speed is Dual Wield while ST works better with a 2H weapon.

Once you have enough crit for Barrage + CTCoC to work it's probably the better choice for this build (Even if you haven't finished getting crit etc to optimize).

I’m a little excited with the new patch. Two things I would like to test the most are:
1) Summon Raging Spirit – even if the damage of 1 spirit will be not high it could be amazing skill. We can have up to 50!!! spirits at a time. They can bust our defense 10 times :) and be good single target damage dealer.
2) Desecrate + Detonate Dead – I would like to see this combo. Probably will not be as good as EK + Arc but I will definitely try it.

Loving this build so far. Saved up a bit of currency in Nemesis and decided to make this my next project. Currently level 71 (about to hit 72).

My tree is a bit different than the recommended build. Notably, I have an extra 5% aura node (so I can run Grace, Wrath, and Purity of Lightning on mana) and I've grabbed one of the 6 all res nodes and will be grabbing a cold res node behind it. This is because I managed to get a 6L coil (was going for a 5L, used 408 fuses with nothing, and then hit 6L without ever getting a 5 lol). This makes the build extremely powerful (I actually have some survivability), but trying to cap resists on 5 items is a bitch and a half. I will probably also be grabbing the mana/life nodes before I grab the rest of the crit nodes. As is, I have 67.4% crit with no power charges, which plays very comfortably. I have around 3k life with 300 reserved by Clarity (so 2.7k). This is a bit lower than I normally like to play (esp in Nemesis), but it's working so far.

I have no issues with reflect and greatly enjoy the build. I think my next purchase (beyond the fabled 10%+crit 50%+spell dmg cold res imbued wand (god that would be amazing)) will be a level 20 EK. However, even with a level 16 EK and storm call, I'm melting everything. Once I cap cold res, I will report back with how the build fares in maps (I ran one and wrecked it, but got nervous with only 40 cold res).

It can only get better from here! To the moon!

Edit: rocked by 98% extra cold dmg rhoas at 73 :(. Ahh well, was fun while it lasted. Definitely keeping this build to fuck around in softcore with haha.

Many thanks for this great guide, LeMing. It's an awesome build, wouldn't have been able to figure it out myself.
A thousand thanks to GGG as well, all those crazy builds that are possible and viable make poe the best ARPG ever.
i'm gonna try this build out.. don't get a lot of time to play due to rl, but this looks like fun....

how important is it to get a rat's nest? I do already have maligro's gloves...
With most of these builds, you just do what you can. If you can't get good damage on a helm, get a good defensive helm (life, resists, etc.) and put attack stats on your diamond rings instead.
yea this build is great but I kinda have my own variation of it

i currently have no problems with survivability due to the fact that i am careful, could use a better main hand wand, and have more resists but all in all a great and fun build
Hi! I'm leveling a Ranger following this thread more or less (with the ranger passive tree)
with some minor variations .. but there's one big thing, which is REFLECT, and i'd like to plan with some advices.

First of all, atm i DONT have problem with reflect.. EK is level 18, and im using a 5L, so maybe my dps is still low.. but I would like to try to avoid Vaal Pact .

Why? I think VP could solve some problems with reflects, but would make 50% regen maps and chaos damage tricky at least. how do you guys deal with those problems?

Anyway, my possible alternative solution is EB+MOM+AA ... what do you think? anyone trying this root too? feedback, advices?

thanks!
