Barrage Wonder Wanderer – how to DEMOLISH maps (1.3.X)

Is the damage to low if I run with a evasion shield instead of a spelldamage one?
I play this build on rampage aswell. This is my current gear:

Spoiler

I am thinking about switching to the 1 hand + shield option, and wondered if it would work with a more defensive shield.

Thank you so much for making this build, it is really powerfull :D
I was working with my tree a bit, trying to optimize the nodes, and I found some interesting nodes.

http://www.pathofexile.com/passive-skill-tree/AAAAAgYBAv4DHgW1Bx4IsQqbDkgRlhUgFr8fQSP2JJ0k_SaVKjgqTSpbLOkwcTB8NZI2PTpCOuE_Jz_8QsNDNkV8SVFKfUrIS3hNkk3jUUdRTFLsVUtW-l3yXkVh4mJaYqxjQ2egbIxuqm-ecFJw1XcHd9d4DXjrefZ9W38rgwmHE4d2idOMC4w2jX2Nv5AKkvOVLpXIl5ecpJ2qplepbqxHtDi0xbXyuXzC7MSiykrLvdN-1CPWiti93Q3dqN-E35jjhOUZ5oHnCudU6Gbo1usU7LDvevDV8kX66_v1_MX-Cv6P_94=

For a total of 10 points we get:
+23% Attack Speed
+8% Movement Speed
+20% Projectile Speed
+15% Projectile Damage
+20 Strength
+20 Inteligence
+50 Dexterity
+20% Accuracy Rating
+16% Mana
+20% Mana Regen

Now, that's a lot of points, and I am not entirely sure where to get them :) What I know, is all those bonuses are very interesting. All those speed bonuses...

As a bonus, this tree makes Ranger quite viable. Just pick up starting AS nodes, voila. Not as optimized as Shadow, but still.

Yes those bonuses are interesting, but past the AS/MS cluster at the start they are pretty bad, and even the AS/MS is only ok. Acuity cluster to the right, and Beserking cluster near Vaal Pact give similar damage increases for just 3 points rather than 7.

No idea what you would cut to get those points either, unless you are planning on getting this char to lvl 95.

I thought about these nodes when building my own tree, they are just too inefficient. The problem is you are spending so many points on really inefficient/useless nodes to get a few nice nodes.
Right, another discussion to have, end game gearing options. Note this is all based on the ele version going evasion, so pinch of salt and whatnot for you EK'ers out there. I think gloves and helmet are fairly obvious, jewelry should all be rares with max crit possible and all the other good stuff. Boots also rare with life, resists, evasion and movespeed.

Belt is where we have our first choice, Doryani's Invitation or a good rare. I'm leaning towards the rare, the armor is useless to the evasion build and 1% LL isn't that great, if you really want more you can craft it onto your wand.

The last 2 options are the Body Armour and Shield. For the shield I see two options, both rares as no uniques are that good for us; a super high evasion shield or a spell damage shield. Both can get comparable life, resists, and block chance, so the choice is really between 1000+ evasion and 60%+ spell damage. The spell shield can also roll mana regen and spell crit%, both quite useful. Unsure as to the best option, may depend on the chest.

For the ele version a 6 link is necessary, so if you can't afford a normal one Tabula is your only choice, which means you probably should go with the Evasion shield.

If you can afford a proper 6 link I see 2 options, Voll's and Lightning Coil. The cost for a 6link of either is going to be almost identical. Voll's is the more offensive as we no longer need to use the utility barrage to keep up charges, which is also massive QoL boost as well, but gives nothing useful defensively, meaning the evasion shield is probably necessary, also mana may become a concern. Lightning coil is so much better defensively, and should allow us to run a spell shield, but it makes resistances harder to reach on other gear, and we still have to maintain PC's manually.

I am unsure of the best combination, but I am leaning towards the Lightning coil + Spell shield. I think this combo has more DPS and survivability than the other, but at the cost of having to use a second skill to keep up PC's. Opinions? How nice is the QoL of Voll's? Is it worth the worse damage and survivability?
I like how this thread is taking every option and putting it under discussion. Optimized means OP!

I've dropped LL gem in favor of 1% leech on wand, crafted from Catarina lvl 6. Since we play ranged, I don't get hit that many times, I don't need much LL. The only time I need it is with those Undying Evangelists. I can manage with flask though, especially since some life nodes we take have +flask effect.
Having said that, I don't think it's a good idea to take Doryani's belt. Rare with resists + life is much better option.

I've played CoC char in Ambush before & I was using 6L Voll's. While getting charges constantly is great, mana was and issue. I managed to overcome it with Thief's Torment, but it means you can't wear second ring. Steep price.
If you run Voll's, you can switch one of your spells for Cold Snap, which has great damage but consumes Power Charge with each cast. Voll's will keep those charges full anyway, so why not.

Lightning Coil might be great for mitigating damage, but -60% lightnig res is too much for this build, IMO.

Consider this:
We need 3 x 135 resists = 405 resists.
Our tree has 14% all resists = 42.
405 - 42 = 363.

Now, we need 2 uniques (Rat's Nest, Maligaro's Virtuosity) that have 0 resists. We are left with 7 slots (body, boots, belt, jewelry, shield). 363 / 7 = ~52 resist per item. That's quite easy to get. Please consider, that Crit+Life+Res jewelry is quite expensive!

With Lightning Coil it's 363 + 60 = 423 / 7 = ~60 resist per item. Now that's even harder to get.

When considering Elemental Weakness maps & curse, you'd want your resists overcapped by ~30. So, 363 + 60 + 90 = 513 / 7 = 73. Ouch!

But wait, what about Chaos resist? :)

With all this, I think Lightning Coil might be only viable if running Purity or with GG gear. Rare 6L EV chest would be so much better, especially with triple resists and good life roll. With EV chest, shield would be spell one, obviously.

I think I'll try to 6L an EV chest and roll additional EV, Chaos Res and Life on it.

Agreed that 1% LL is more than enough for sustain in pretty much all cases. I use LL gem and Vaal pact not for sustain but for combating reflect. I don't think I'll ever drop them, I hate 1 shotting myself from offscreen.

Thanks for your analysis on Voll's, another mana mitigation option is the newly buffed Revelry node (+2 mana for each by your attacks) but that is a minimum of 5 points out of my tree. Think I'll avoid it.

My notes on Lightning coil and resists:

406 base required (+1 max cold resist)
~90 more nice to have for overcapping

72 on my tree (24% all)
-60 Lightning coil

Which leaves 394-484 required from gear. Only 6 slots of gear though, no way the wand is going to have resists on it.

Which means 66-81 per item. My current resist gear averages 71 per item, and I have yet to spend more than 2C on any of these items. I'm curious as to why you are considering 73 too high to bother trying? Sure the gear won't be cheap, but hell, we are talking about 6 links here, 70+ resist items are chump change compared to that XD.

I think Lightning coil should definitely be possible, even with overcapping resists. Chaos resist/damage may be a problem, but I have never had an issue ignoring it or potting through it with any of my other chars, but then again I've never gotten past lvl 76 maps.

Can't say if its the BEST way to go, just that its certainly obtainable.
Why are you taking the Projectile damage and speed nodes at the beginning of the Ele build?
Does Arctic Breath count as a projectile ?

Yes, all spells we use are projectiles: fireball, ice spear, arctic breath, freezing pulse. The only non-projectile is arc.

Another thing to note is, Lightning Coil is best when used with Purity of Lightning and Saffel's Frame.

I think I'll concentrate on getting BIS wand and then I'll think about better 6L chest.

I've done maps up to 72 without LL gem, still haven't died to reflect. Instant flask and 1% leech is all I used. Granted I reroll reflect maps, but reflect mobs alone can't hurt me :)
