[1.xx] Islidox's Build tips/critique section for Rangers

Let's assume we have enough int and over-capped our res to where we don't need Diamond Flesh,+6 res mode, and Wisdom of the Glade. Where would you place the 4 extra passives into your 117 build (or 5 if you spec out of Herbalism.)Also, would you recommend the 20% bow crit chance node in between the Shadow and Ranger?

Just started my million th ranger now.
Following this build from the start now.

Plan is i've just got gymnastics, now getting the frenzy charge, those 3 life nodes, then onto Undars and (asap into the frenzy charge in shadow tree and getting mind drinker) or (mana flow in dualist and leather and steel)

Thoughts on which first?
@shAd122: You don't need the Foxshade Wild Leather chest, and if you have the Wurm's Molt Belt, you don't need Slitherpinch gloves either. You'd be better off with some rare glvoes that gives +rez or +life. Also, I would be careful when using Split Arrow. I use RoA because it's easier to build DPS and I can control where the shots land to prevent myself from dying to phys reflect. If you plan to keep using Split Arrow, you have to be careful when shooting off-screen.

@xshinji and Pavlarian: correct. When anyone uses 2-syllable acronyms, they're usually referring to keystones.

@havenrl: get Mana Flows first - you'll need to sustain yourself before reaching Mind Drinker. Also you get to pick up some needed DPS passives at that stage and more life.

@Blaa: Something like this -

I may not even spec into Deadly Draw at all, as I find that 300% crit mult is enough to survive 1-2 shots on phys reflect before killing yourself. Without the +6 node and Diamond Flesh, I'd reroute those to life/evasion/accuracy/critchance passives depending on what you feel is lacking.

Ok cheers, will do, and follow your guide all the way now.

Extra bit,

I have been thinking about Life Leech / Life Gain On Hit for the aoe attack for SA/RoA.
What are your thoughts on this?

Hey Islidox!

First off, thank you for the wonderful post. I've been referencing it for quite some time now. It's been a great help so far!

Question for ya though. I've been playing around with multiple builds since happening upon this game (mainly Gankstaboo's HC RoA build) and yours. Two very different play styles. I played Ganks up to 75 and can map etc. just fine. I've managed to play your Ondar's Guile/Acrobatics Phys. Crit build to Cruel Docks (currently farming it).

Loving your build. What really scares me is how hard I get hit when I do actually get hit (ie: through 50%Evasion and 20%Dodge). What scares me even more is how much more it's going to hurt in Merc. Mind you, my gear isn't really up to par and I should probably start looking for more HP gear on this new toon, which is the only way I can really see this working (other than the obvious decoy/granites)

I guess what my question really boils down to is how does this build fair in docks/lunaris/maps and how do you go about not getting hit by an 18 wheeler when it does come rolling around the bend? :)

Thanks in advance!

Depending on how much life you have on equipment, your life life pool can range from 2.6-3.4k HP. You can take a few hits, but you're not supposed to, which is the point of being ranged. I can Lunaris runs fairly easily, with the exception of Whipped Miscreations who seem to be able to hit my character a lot easier than other melee-mobs.

This is where your Decoy Totem or Skelebrotem comes into play and the chill/freeze from your Hatred/crits. Combined with Temporal chains, you should be able to kill all mobs before they take down the totem with a decent DPSed RoA. It's why I also recommend linking the totems with the Faster Casting gem to make the totem summon as fast as possible to prevent melee mobs from getting near you.

Sometimes I get lazy and just let the mobs surround me while I RoA them, and I can survive it quite easily (minus whipped miscreations). For the 1-hit KO bosses, Temporal Chains and kiting is how you have to deal with them plus totem. This isn't the Kaoms plate + Lioneyes + Alpha Howls + Blackgleam + Thunderfists + Wake of Destruction faceroll type of build. You should be kiting and always watching your shots and react accordingly. While this build will probably encounter difficulty in the 70+ maps, the 60s maps and merciless difficulty is doable, and moreso if geared properly.

Is the build on page 30 safe for onslaught?

I'm considering dropping some crit nodes/physical dmg nodes for the extra 10% life node by golems blood and finess life node by chaos innoculation

Edit:

Might not even go to get the finess as it's somewhat out of the way, rather grab master of arena(useless I know) to get the 10% life node in the duelist tree, then grab the 10% life node above golems blood, either getting golems blood too or not I'm unsure yet

It is not for the sole reason that it has crit multiplier in it.

Here would be an Onslaught/HC version of the build with more life and no crit mult. (You'll still be able to do 150% when criticaling, but that's nowhere near enough to oneshot you.)

I'd probably try to keep the assination keystone, and wouldn't take the 1% life regen node in the duelist tree.

You cloud even drop the 8% faster attack speed node at the start of the ranger tree + some other node and pick up the 15% faster attack node below the duelist tree (Beserking) since your already almost there anyways

Also the second armor/evasion node in the duelist tree isn't worth picking up. Not sure if leather and steel is worth it either, as you won't have very much armor if at all and you shouldnt' need the movespeed increase, which saves another 3 points

I was thinking something like this:

Also obviously black gleam isn't a very defensive quiver, but would it be useful in mitigating physical reflect? Or not worth it at all?
