Krip LS ranger <-
Interesting.
Yeah, I did think that going for the 1% regen was a good idea as opposed to Blood Drinker. I was planning on getting that and the 12% life nodes later on, around 70-75, but I think that considering the lack of health (hence my death at 60 in the race) I might push that forward in open beta. Oh, I'm also using Warlord's Mark on a spell totem. Works really really well except for its long cast time. Need to link that up to a faster casting. I believe that Leather and Steel actually applies twice - first the evasion bonus is applied, then it is converted to armor, then the armor bonus is applied. Two reasons: a) I found that answer on some forum threads, and b) How the hell else would I have 10,000 armor with shitty gear? Seriously. I think that this is how LS works. The projectiles that shoot out behind the target mob are pretty self-explanatory. However the target mob itself is hit twice, which is why LS is so powerful. The first hit I think is counted as melee, while the second hit is counted as a projectile. As a result, the point blank node significantly improves the damage of the second hit. Two more things about Point blank. -If you're attacking packs of enemies and leaping around, you're going to be in close quarters anyways. -If you're using pierce, fork, or chain, I'm pretty positive that the "distance traveled" by the projectile resets each time it splits or chains, meaning that point blank synergies insanely well with these support gems. if I'm wrong on any of these points, please let me know! ---Last point: Thinking about trying to get my scrubby fingers on a 15+% Lightning Strike and try some pierce stuff.. |

Point Blank does affect Lightning Strike's projectiles (GGG post), my bad.

Lightning Penetration support gem might be helpful for this build =)

" Edit: nevermind this fries my brain. But TLDR Leather and Steel bonuses do not BOTH apply on one type of defence (evasion, armor). So whether you use a 50/50 hybrid gear or a 100 evasion gear, or a 100 armor gear the net armor rating is the same with Leather and Steel nodes (armor and evasion %) AND Iron Reflexes. So basically Leather and Steel gives more flexibility with hybrid armor. Last edited by DeF46#3887 on Jan 16, 2013, 9:01:33 AM

" How much health are we talking about? (in the last difficulty) My respecced Legacy Ranger had upwards of 2900 with 350+ life on items and 150% with the original build (with Blood Drinker). However it went down to ~2600 as I had to adjust to the new resistances. Even with 2600+ HP and 2.3% Life Regen maxed resists is a must, and Chaos Damage is still very dangerous. I'd say in general after auras are activated you'd want at least 2500 HP. One key ingredient that Kripp explained in his vids is that life leech is converted to a heal over time... so it is proportional to how much life you have. |

The reason it applies twice (if I'm correct) is because of the introduction of Iron Reflexes into the equation. Otherwise, it wouldn't.
Well, let's see. When I died on HC I had about 2500...that's with 158% on my passive tree. Now, as a level 67 on softcore, I'm up to 3350 health. a HUGE component of this build is getting high +life rolls on just about every piece of gear. Also, I'm running 3.3% health regen, so that helps. With those two extra life nodes I'd probably be able to hit 3500. By the way, I haven't died since. What it comes down to for this build, I think, is four things: -Huge mitigation (Max resists coupled with the insane armor you get from L&S and Iron Reflexes) -As large a health pool as you can get -Huge amounts of recovery (2%+ life regen, lots of life leech) -Situational awareness + using positioning skills to avoid taking too much damage. Using Warlord's Mark, you can get even more mitigation and recovery. I don't know how well this type of melee thing will work in Open Beta though--Kripp's discussion on stream makes it seem like the game has definitely been made more difficult. If this doesn't work so well in OB, it may be smarter to focus on using LS as a projectile move and just stand back. For that, it might be best to try to go for 100% pierce with a 20% lightning strike (assuming it isn't nerfed) and projectile weakness or something. Maybe just 60% pierce would be enough. anyways, that's my thoughts. |

Any possibility of an updated build on this Krip? :) AFAIK the one you linked previously has not been updated although you mentioned you did?
Thanks! |

Also did anyone find if Leather and steel actually works with IR?
Some say it does and some say it does not. Has anyone seen any oficial word about it? |

" It works once, after conversion of evasion into armor. |

" It works it just doesn't double dip. So they are applied separately and then added together. This is reworked Dual Wield LS Duelist(based off krips ranger) build which I reached level 70 and am still alive in the HC 1 week race. I got there about 2 days ago and after realizing how much I would have to play to even remotely get close to the top 20 I decided to relax and focus on what I wanted to play for OB. To explain what they mean is that for my spec it would be more beneficial for me to pickup the 3 steal skin armour nodes then to jaunt over and pickup the 3 leather and steal +1 point for the extra dex node. Why? I have a base dex of 192 in my skill tree which converts to 38.4% evasion rounded down. Plus 48% from the ranger talents for a total of 86% increased evasion. If I picked up the steal skin nodes this total would increase to 136%. If I picked up the dex and 3 L&S nodes I would go to a base of 44.4 rounded down, 48% from ranger talents and 40% from L&S for a total of 132% increased evasion with 40% increased armour. This 40% armour does not double dip. So if I was wearing a pure evasion piece the 40% armour would do nothing for me. If I was wearing a hybrid armour/evasion piece the evasion rating would get increased by 132% while the armour section would only get 40% increased. This leads to running grace while stacking pure evasion/armour nodes to be the most efficient way to get high armour. The L&S nodes would still help though if you were trying to get really really high armour. ** Edit ** I tested this with the free respec points I got from quests. By estimating what I thought my Armour would be with my current build, Adding 1 points of pure armour and 1 point of leather and steal on the bottom nodes using a white pure evasion piece and a white hybrid armour/evasion piece. The number matched perfectly. IGN : Jackyboy_Trade Last edited by Jackyboy#1891 on Jan 18, 2013, 3:17:09 PM
