Jan 14: One-week HC Race

I'm so glad there will be no Ruthless in OB... cuz its staring to get annoying being constantly 1 shot by Vaal :D
Playin as melee is just sad stuff...

EDIT: RIP Simon - Alt+F4 is hard

how could you do a long race and not have it decided on highest level ranking, without making it stupid?

They already do: with adding prices for different goals (level reached, area cleared etc) in most of the events. But of course, how this appeal you depends on each's personal opinion on what's 'winning'...

They do short races for people who dont have time to race for a whole week, and week long races for those with a lot of time to spare, seems perfectly logical to me

Would be nice (probably even neccessary) to also have a middle way: (additional) events that treat (regular) players to reach high(er) levels (beside the attraction of the level itself).

Its already a strange and discouraging fact that (so much) people try to reach (like) game-breaking results while abandoning life; of course there will always be some of such, but an amount that influences the players balance to such an extent.... is hard to describe o_O

as a "regular" player... we can/do help the top players out by contributing to the economy. You could find good Rare/Unique items or currencies that the top players will pay “over odds” for to help them achieve their rankings.

The 'regular' players (not limited to casuals only) SHOULD not be 'used'/considered as just kind of 'supporters to the economy' - its like cannon fodder to me! If that were the case, it would like demand a boycott of the economy - just to not increase the gap between top and average...

If the whole system is biased towards no-lifers, something went completely wrong... since the top players also will dominate the short events, it needs a middle way - must not be (just/only) like a mix of long term coupled with limited time frame, be creative but get the point: encourage people to make efficient use of their temporal ressources over a longer time span.

If you put the most time into it, you will get the most rewards. But as you say, there are short events, too. That anyone can join and do well in. If you don't have 2 hours to play a race, I find it hard to believe that you have time to play games at all.

There is no reason that the "no-lifers" as you call them should beat anyone with a job/wife and four kids in the shorter races. Especially the solo ones. All you need to practice is two hours each day. Time these runs, and test your different build choices. If you did this every day, you would not skip any more family time than normal, and you'd eventually get better.

Yes, indeed. It would be really nice if they made this melee hit closer to the lightning mechanic. So you can at least get hit twice before you die. 1=ok, 2=really bad, 3=dead.

Maybe reduce the damage by 50% and increase his attack speed and melee ability spamming by 50%. Then make it always apply burn damage.

Its not only the question to be able (or willing) to spend like the 2 hours. Its also about: how does the scheduling of the events fit your needs (I mostly dont even think about participating on late nightly events at all). And the second fact: the less duration such events last, the higher the players density (result-related) will be. There's not much diversity possible (at the top end) within 60 minutes....

The shorter a race is, the more influence has luck. And: keep trying/training/testing/participating for the short terms will lead into builds that are (mostly) not viable or practicable in the long run, keeping you further on the 'short end' of the general rankings by this...

Well fuck my life.

No mobs on screen, nothing at all, I enter Crossroads in ruthless.

The loading screen takes longer then usual, and then blam - I get kicked out to login and it says my character is out of my league, I log back in and my character is in Default..?

I'm interested too. I managed to make a screen shot yesterday, but it's incomplete:

Easy, limit the amount you can play on your character per day.

That would be completely fail. The biggest no lifers would just farm on side characters and do high maps on main characters. It would still be determined by a minimum level of play time, but then you'd have to whine that people are cheesing.
Every longer race you see the same comments. People crying that it's *unfair* that the people with the most time to put into the race win them? Really? WTF?
When you go out for a run do you complain that everyone who have trained more than you and can run faster should slow down to your pace because it's unfair?

As many point out you have the 1-3 hour races if you really need to win a race that bad and don't have time for long ones.

There is also payouts for reaching lvl 50,60,70 etc on the week long races (well not this one but as Chris opening post explains there is not much point in this one since the wipe is a day or two after the race ends) so everyone has something get gain from them.
I have full time job, relationship and other hobbies outside of gaming but generally find a hour or two a day to play. I have played in every 1 week race even though I knew I had no chance or desire to win them, but I still have loads of fun in them and have collected a bunch of orbs for the effort.

The funny part is that with 100% certainty the ppl saying that we should only be able to play 2 hours a day in the league blah, blah, blah would stand no chance to win either way. Just because mommy said you where special didn't make it true, check back with reality.
