if all races will be by the highest level win i think i will never participe the no life people always win.

and yes i know they do 1h or 3h that's good but i mean the longest races.

Thats kind of the point though, how could you do a long race and not have it decided on highest level ranking, without making it stupid?

They do short races for people who dont have time to race for a whole week, and week long races for those with a lot of time to spare, seems perfectly logical to me

Easy, limit the amount you can play on your character per day.

1. During previous races prizes were given out for reaching a certain level.
2. In the future you will be able to make private leagues so you can compete with your friends.

Example from previous 1 week race:
All characters over level 78 will receive 360 random currency items.
All characters over level 75 will receive 240 random currency items.
All characters over level 70 will receive 120 random currency items.
All characters over level 60 will receive 90 random currency items.
All characters over level 50 will receive 60 random currency items.

Excellent! I like that idea a lot. Thanks!

I have to admit - hardcore is terrifying! I just cleared the prison, and those dark corridors really reminded me of playing the original Diablo. Not sure what's lurking, very dark, playing it very safe. Then the Warden...man that was a tough fight. Kited my way around him, but had some close calls. Almost harder than him were the packs of frost skeletons, backed up by necromancers. That was tough to deal with!

I love the idea of events and races, especially for a game like this. Adds a tremendous amount of replayability. However, I'm worried that the vast majority of players will simply never be competitive enough to gain anything. The Top 20 is filled with level 60 players, and I'm guessing future races will all be this way. How can regular ol' players actually be involved in events? Don't get me wrong, it's still fun to play a one week event! But the chance for any kind of payout is quite small. Or am I missing something?

Also Glancr... as a "regular" player... we can/do help the top players out by contributing to the economy. You could find good Rare/Unique items or currencies that the top players will pay “over odds” for to help them achieve their rankings. Don’t forget that once the event is over all characters and items are moved to the standard Hardcore league.

Currencies normally wanted by top players towards the end:

- Maps
- Cartographer’s Chisel
- Orbs of Augmentation
- Orbs of Alteration
- Orbs of Alchemy
- Chaos Orbs

Aside from that… it is good to be a “spectator” sometimes. Be in the event, playing away, and watch as events unfold. You feel part of it.

Yea GGG did think of the average player as far as at least giving them alittle something is concerned.

Us average players will never beat the top players and the top players will never beat the top players who have more time to play. Nothing GGG can do to fix that. I'm a competative person by nature so I'll be damned if I'm not gonna keep trying. But I also understand the chances of me winning a unique are slim to none and its not like GGG can just start handing them out. Unless they make it so every xxx races a player finishes (not just participates but finishes past a certain level) they get one. Then you run the risk of flooding the market with the uniques.

So, come OB I'll take my minor currency reward and move on to the next one, enjoying every second of it.

The 'regular' players (not limited to casuals only) SHOULD not be 'used'/considered as just kind of 'supporters to the economy' - its like cannon fodder to me! If that were the case, it would like demand a boycott of the economy - just to not increase the gap between top and average...

If the whole system is biased towards no-lifers, something went completely wrong... since the top players also will dominate the short events, it needs a middle way - must not be (just/only) like a mix of long term coupled with limited time frame, be creative but get the point: encourage people to (try to) make efficient use of their temporal ressources over a longer time span.

Oh, well, I was one-shotted by vaal, for 2490 hp. He did not even show the initial attack animation, just skipped right to raised arm after a stun.
