[0.10.0] Eldritch Battery Ethereal Knives Shadow [Videos Included]

i got a couple of questions regarding this build.

i wanna ask about about fork/chain on EK.

If i understood corectly fork splits each dagger of the 10 that hit into 2 that then hit other targets.

Chain makes each of the 10 knives hit 2 more targets.

they both hit for an absurd amount of targets but they both produce 30 knives in total.
Amiright? i think i am loosing the benefit of one over the other.

also i see a lot of folks supporting knives with faster projectiles. Is this purely for the projectile damage and cast speed if it has quality or faster projectiles actually does something usefull?

thanks for your time and most importanlty thanks for the guide inva.

Chain has the benefit of ENORMOUS aoe damage - the more crowded the area, the more damage chain is going to do - its proportional in its damage in this respect. Thats why it imposes a 50% damage reduction - anything else would be super OP for AoE. This in turn though, makes it incredibly shitty for small AoE targets or single damage - which is where beartrap comes in (I use ice spear too - its pretty strong). I personally - do not like chain yet - its mana cost does not outweigh its benefit yet for me - maybe this will change when farming places like docks in merciless and maps too.

In regards to projectile speed - I am using fast projectiles with the quillrain/heavy quiver combo (I need magnate for this - then shit will be rediculous). Since I have over 150% projectile speed I can hit targets OUT OF MY SCREEN. This is really really safe, and I can stunlock enemies from very far away (i need a bit higher cast speed). In summary - faster projectiles makes it so you can cast from farther away - therefore having a larger spread and theoretically hitting MORE targets from larger AREA radius. Also increased projectile damage helps as well.
so EK is like freezing pulse.Faster projectiles give it extra range?

Exactly.

And I agree with Alabugin's explanation on Chain. I have to say, though, that his described moment of Chain becoming viable later, never happened for me. Fork and Chain are both good when you farm stuff that you can ramp up to really huge packs. For smaller groups and single targets, both options are a hindrance. Hence I never switched to either one of them.

But some people like it, nothing wrong with using it I guess. If you can support the costs of course.

Created a now Shadow follow this build, but has a pbl to me. All ele dmg from gears such as armours, jewels... and from buff {Anger, Wrath} not affect to my EK. All dmg only comes from phys... Still cant figure out why what happened. Can some1 explain for me ?
Sorry for my bad English :)

EK is a spell. Just like Freezing Pulse or whatever. Except it deals physical dmg, which is unique among spells.

Flat dmg increases from items or auras do not work for spells. They enhance attacks - and EK is a spell, rememeber?

The only aura working for EK is Hatred (percentage of physical dmg added as cold dmg).

+%physical dmg on weapons does also not work. Weapons have LOCAL modifiers in this case, that only apply to the weapon's base dmg.

%spell dmg and %phyiscal dmg (on gear but NOT on weapons, see above) - that's what increases EK's dmg.

Cast Speed and Projectile Speed add to EK's DPS and aoe efficiency respectively.

Because i still don't know what I want to be when i grow up, I'm trying all kinds of builds and have this guy to lvl 22.

i'm so mana starved it's not funny (I blame fork), should I remove it, or just keep popping mana pots all the time?

Also, as far as gear goes, should i just wear what is the best stats? The OP has str, str/int, and int gear on. :)

If i remove fork from my EK, I also have Added Fire Damaage attached, what is a good/cheap support to boost damage? Faster Projectiles is 110% mana, while fork is 125%. :/

I know it gets better when i get to that point I can hit the "EB" button while running discipline, but i'm not there yet lol.
It's a common problem. Keep leveling the gem and use another spell if you want. Freezing Pule with LMP is a solid combo to carry you to cruel quite comfortably (add Faster Projectiles as well).

Shuffle around the support gems for EK to find your comfort zone.

Or just stick with it and pop those mana flasks. Annoying but it get's the job done.

It's all up to you, really.

I started an EK shadow following this guide yesterday for the 3 hour solo race, and I was using EK + fork as soon as I could (and I added projectile speed after as well). It's very costly on mana but I could find that in the level 20-29 region I could recharge two greater mana flasks fast enough if I just stuck to large enough packs (10+ mobs). EK just rips through them.

Building this as a Hardcore Marauder as I felt too squishy, especially against bosses (solo as my computer can't take parties). Links- mana leech removed in favour of blood magic.

Here's the end game theorycrafted build (specced out of EB for yet more damage buffer):
http://www.pathofexile.com/passive-skill-tree/AAAAAgEAAnEEswx9DkgPxBB_ES0RlhRNFecW8xkuGYUaOBpsJDwkqiY8J6kn7SkuKU8snC0fL5026TrYO3w9_ESrSVFN2FBCUFBUSVWuVcZYY1nzWm1apl3yXz9gbWZPbRlwUnDVc7N8g3y4f8aBSYFvgh6DOIhCjDaMdozPjr6PRo-mkFWdgJ2jna6ePKIAoi6io6cIp1ynhKyqsji4k7jKud3AGsHzxp7G2M36z2XQ0NSP1U_a3dzH3nfjauQi51LsOO8O8GvxdvId8i_z3fZI_Kv9zw==

As always, while leveling, put points into 1. improving survivability 2. attribute nodes 3. damage.

Currently lvl 26 in Western and running with 2x fire traps and 2x bear trap- will likely ditch fire trap once I'm able to link blood magic- but yes, currently, lack of mana is an issue. (wtb 2x Saturated grand mana flasks)

Think this is viable?
