Someone else might have a more advanced answer for you, but from my experience with this build, I would run double daggers if I was farming a safe area with not a lot of danger (like ledge for example), obviously a lot more damage output this way ... BUT anytime I advanced into area where there was a decent amount of threat I would switch to dagger-shield for the block chance, energy shield, res, life, ect on shields.
Survivability/defence > Raw damage if there is any threat of dying.
ah yes. obviously the survivability is a good trade. like i said it was obvious but i couldn't think of it.

I've played double daggers up to merciless act II from there on out I switched to dagger and shield simply for more resistances. Dont forget there are shields with nice spell damage and resistanced :)

merveil is pretty simple actually just make sure you have 75% cold resistance. Lure her to the front area where you enter the map. There is a large rock wall you can easly run around. Just toss beartraps and have her chase you around it she'll go down pretty quickly. Then in her second form retreat to the bridge on the left side, that makes all her little minions line up as they cross it to get you and just murder them with EK while either tossing beartraps at her second form or just hit her with EK aswell.

I've been following this build but it's really difficult to get the DEX requirement for a lot of the gems (Bear Trap, EK, etc). The tree only dips into one of the +30 DEXTERITY nodes so a lot of the dex must be supplied by gear. Unless there is another way? Can somebody tell me how they reached around 140~ dex and still follow this build?

Before starting that new char: Should I specc anything different on Default League (SC)?
I think this guide was made for HC, wasn't it?

Umm ... are you sure you are looking at the tree right and didn't miss some things? What level are you at at how much dex do you currently have? There is +80 in dex nodes within the first 50 skill points. (2x 30 dex nodes, and a 20 dex node, all within early-mid game building following this guide)

She didnt chase. She casts some fists or arrows

I had skeleton totem in cruel/merciless which made the fight incredibly easy. (with 75% cold resist)
