That is actually NOT TRUE!! I though as you did. Even opened a bug request on this. Fortunately GGG explained what is the difference between them.
Infused Shield grants you way more ES than any other ES node in the TREE. The "more" in the description is the key.

You explained why you pick arc over spark (spork), but why arc over storm call?


Storm call requires a totally different Tree. U need to focus on area dmg and the tree will need to be modified a lot. I actually did switch arc for Storm just to see how it goes... and Hell Ya!! It really rocks. Imagine all the screen filled with storm calls! On the mana side... u will still need a lot. U are casting totems after all...

This buil was done since beta times. Storm call was very recently added to the game. I still have 2 other chars lvl 75+ which i need to respec with full tree reset. One of them will be Storm Call based. Not really sure i will go totems on it.

Yeah I tried storm call without totems first, but I didn't really like hardcasting it because of the mechanics, the stacking with delay etc and placement. I'm the person who just likes to zerg and not worry about spamming my mouse on exactly the right spots all the time. So yeah totem is ideal, I just place them and they bomb the whole place.

My findings so far:

- Against single target like a boss, the DPS is obv multitudes higher, because all the damage hits with the faster cast time than arc, and arcs chain effects are useless here. So that's nice.
- Sometimes you run into fast moving mobs that avoid a lot of damage done by storm call totems because of the delay. Against these mobs arc is so much better. You want to counter this by having a bigger area that hits. This is why I don´t get that some people actually want to go for concentrated effect. If there´s one thing you don´t want it´s the area to be smaller. Linking a larger radius support might be overdoing it though to spend a precious link slot on when it doesn't do anything else. Like you say, the tree has some nice larger radius nodes.
- Storm call gets 4% increased crit chance per quality, so at q20 the base crit will be at 7%. With all the spell crit nodes around, I guessed that maybe increased crit damage will be nice to link to it, when you get a q20 of course. That's what I'll be focussing my build on for my character. Dunno if it will turn out well.
- With this totem build dual curse at the very least is a must idd, triple curse even better. Because you have nothing else to do :p. What I don't get though is why you spent so many points on the grid that to me seem useless, just to get to +1 curse that 2 easy to get items can give you, windscream and doedres ring. I count 10 useless nodes to get there, if I include faster cast speed for curses and static blows (you said you don't need that anymore at higher level). You have a reason for this, like reserving the item slots for something? Or you just didn't get to fixing it yet?

As for the rest dual totem is awesomesauce so far and I've been using your guide and videos as a baseline so thx for that.

Short Update

Gear so far


the Staunching for the ridiculous puncture / bleed effects atm. I do have another saturated warding flask in inv.

ATM looking for upgrades, but it's hard so I'm saving up :)

Can't upload videos since I don't record them, but it's smooth gameplay and I even replaced one crit gem for the IIR one, getting me lowbish uniques but still :D

To the discussion about Arc vs Storm Call
The nasty jumpers of Act 1 / Act 3, or the idioticly strong Devourers: They get instagibbed before they do any harm, MID-AIR whilst jumping or when they rise from the ground. Stormcall would have ripped me more in higher maps than a glasscannon. Mark that my Arc is not yet levelled to 20, its still making huge leaps in terms of DMG when hitting 20

Ure point is a good one. I can switch one of the rings with the curse one (boots are out of the question) but i don't think i can compensate what i have on one of the rings at least. I can try to replace the right one. The left one... no.
I tried to optimized the PC version. Give me some feedback if you want.

Using the basic of your build, I made my own, kinda the same but with less dmg overall as a Scion. So far, it is pretty decent, although I met one situation in merciless that proved to be very difficult. There was a rare mob with the "Other allies cannot die" aura, and a necromancer was also there. Since Arc chains to the nearest enemies, I wasn't able to pin point the damage to that rare mob and had to run back out and swap storm call in for a bit. I did try to drop the totem right next to it, but it was a no go. Didn't die though, although it was really annoying not being able to keep the runs continuous. Anyone got a tip for this specific case? A quick fix is I guess have a separate spell totem linked with storm call for times like this, but I want to see other options before prepping up another item.

That is an OK modification if u want more defence.
However, i tried to apply what someone suggested earlier. I have dropped Whispers of Doom and Hex Master and got the curse ring. Current tree is this:

That's one of the weak spots of this build: Invincible Aura bosses and totems. The best way to deal with them is to summon totems near them. It will kill it... eventually :)

Some of you wanted a HC viable Tree. I will try to come up with one when i have some time.
Thanks for a good build. A little gear dependant but not expensive. I found it really easy to get through Cruel especially once Ancestral Bond is activated. Then after lvl 49 and we can put up 3 totems, the bosses and high mob areas are easy.

Got a few questions for you if you don't mind.
1) does increase spell damage % on gear increase damage of the totems?
2) is ice spear solely for power charges? does it still chill when we no longer can do damage with it?
3) does one need clarity aura?
4) would cold snap be useful linked to cast on damage taken?
