To change your time zone, click your name in the top left (takes you to your profile)

Then click the link "Edit preferences" and select your time zone there.

30 minutes before the event starts you can create your character, so everyone is on the beach at twilight strand until the beginning when everyone starts at the same time.

Everyone already has a chance to win something. Events are all fresh starts from scratch, so the only thing seperating the winners from the losers is skill (and a bit of luck).

Besides, free to play = unlimited accounts. Theres no way to prevent one godly player from potentially taking 1st in every event if they have the time and inclination to participate.
