Petrov's Ranger Build: Lightning Strike or Reave+Abyssus+Lightning Coil+EB+MoM+VP

So at what lvl do you suggest lvling thge codt + gem that are link to them?
Since 1.01 this is what I am doing/planning to do (once I level one CoDT gem up).

- Level 1 CoDT: Enduring Cry (lvl 5), Detonate Dead (level 8), Arctic Armour (lvl 7)
- Level 1 CoDT: Temp Chains (lvl 5), Summon Skellies (low), Decoy Totem (low)
- Level 15 or so CoDT: Immortal Call (high), Increased Duration (high) and Enduring Cry (again)

I will probably keep a high level Decoy Totem on manual cast for tricky situations.

I have dumped Moletn Shell now.

Any specific way you levelled up this character? I'm in the process of levelling right now and am wondering which passives would be best to grab first. Did you level up with LS?

I certainly levelled up with Lightning Strike. Getting EB is kinda of a no brainer whenever you get those dagger nodes up north. I'd probably aim to get Vaal Pact only once you're around level 70 or later, given that you probably need a good life pool and a good ES shield (for the EB and MoM to work well together) before you can be effective with VP.

You have a lot of DPS in this build already, so make sure you don't forget those life nodes. I'd aim to be getting around a dozen of the life nodes in the first 60 or so levels. Try to get your hands on a good ES/res/life shield and make a beeline to Mind over Matter once you've got some decent life over about 2.5k anf once you've grabbed EB.

Is this helpful?

Hey petrov, I loved your beta builds!

I am thinking of making a new character and I saw this build and thought I could possibly salvage some of my old chars gear.

Curious - which of these items do you think I could keep using for your build, and which ones would I Need to replace?

e: there is a 20% GMP in the coil, though you said to use lmp
AMD Ryzen 7 5800X
MSI RX 2080
Samsung 980 Pro SSD
32GB GSkill Trident-Z

Hi Eep, thanks!

I think of the gear there, obviously having a 5L Lightning Coil is a great start. The two stone ring is good for the resists, which you have to work hard to max out i this build. I'd say the paua ring could be improved to a resist/manaregen or leech/life ring if you can get your hands on one. You can use that helmet, but if you really want to boost your dps, go for the abyssus (but that is a luxury item, not a cornerstone of the build).

The gloves and belt are fine, nice res and life. The ammy is a bit useless for this build, you're going to want to get one with res, life and possibly mana regen and maybe some phys damage if youre lucky. The rainbow strides are great for their ES and block, but I think you won't cap out resistances with the new versions of only 8% resist all.

But certainly enough decent gear to get started on the build for sure.

Petrov.
Thanks for the reply!!

One last query:

What quality gems (if any) are most important for the build?

Lightning Strike has a great qual bonus (% chance to pierce). Other than that, probably LMP and FA - both give you 10% IAS at 20% quality. Theyre probably the keys. WED is ok, not amazing qual.

Hi!
The build looks really awsome, and I really want to try it out!
But it looks quite expensive because of the required Cast On Dmg Taken gems and the required uniques.
Sadly Im quite poor (approx 3 ex worth of currency AND items together), So im worried I wont be able to fund this build.
Should I farm with a high lvl char and get some currency before starting with this build?

Sorry for my English.

Hi Swizz, thanks for reading the build.

You don't need to think of this build as *only* viable if you have my gear. It is viable well before then, it just becomes both extremely powerful and resilient with this gear.

With your currency I would focus on buying 1) a good dagger with high DPS (you don't need crit chance specifically, so that should make it cheaper than these current flavour-of-the-month cast-on-crit daggers) 2) a high (250+) ES shield (preferably with resistances and/or life) and 3) the Lightning Coil unique (which you can get for probably less than an exalt, unlinked).

Otherwise, just try to stack life and resists on gear - and ES/mana if you can.

You don't need Abyssus until later when you really want to go over 20k dps on Lightning Strike.

With a high ES shield, a good dagger and Lightning Coil, this build will give you really good DPS (probably around the 10k mark) and great survivability once you take EB and Mind over Matter and at least a dozen life nodes.

Hope this helps.
