The Actual Problem With Map-Only Uniques

Rare's are supposed to be the boring ol' meat and potatoes behind your character's strength. The uniques are the garnish. If you plan on garnishing your meat and potatoes with more meat and potatoes (AKA Map Uniques) then it should be hard to do.

This was the case in Diablo 2, because rares could not be crafted to suit your liking. PoE enables you to get the affixes you want on rares.

If casuals like you could get them that means everyone can get them. If everyone had the rarest items in the game then that would make for a boring game. Why do you want a boring game?

If everbody has something i dont care for it because i play solo. It doesnt change my gameplay or my fun playing the game if everybody has a koams.....

It just depends on your point of view you see :)

Was the game boring before ? That's not my opinion.
Had everyone 1 Kaom and 1 Shav in his stash ? That's was far from beeing the case.
So your statement is completely wrong ? yes.

I don't play the game for anyone else, I don't care what they have equipped or do, and I don't have 16hrs a day to play.

If you put on your full plate mail, and I throw hundreds of toothpicks at you, you'll basically not feel it.

If someone catapults a whole tree at you, don't expect the Armour to prevent as much of the damage.

Unfortunately for you, this game isn't made for casual gameplay.
Sure they could open a noobie ladder.
If they would change is that much, game would be drained faster and people would just end up getting bored in the end.
Well, for me it,s boring to play a game where u dont have a chance to get every loot possible in the game as a casual. I played diablo 2 Lod for 6-7 years. Never found a Death cleaver for example. But the chance to get it was there.
Making some items map only and even 78 map only, makes it for 90% or more players impossible to get.And even though i know i will possibly never find a Shav, Kaoms or other end game unique.
The possibility to get it , that,s what keeps me here. And possibly makes me need more stash tabs since im willing to farm, which means income for GGG

You do know you can acquire the items through trading which means you DO have the possibility of acquiring the map only items even when you are not running the maps?

There aren,t many 78 maps going around, not every map guaranty a shavs or other unique.
And who says they are sold when finally some1 finds them?
Having a chance to find yourself is what makes me play. Otherwise if you want the trade game so much... ask GGG for an auction house. U sound like u are for it. that way we can do even less just kill trash mobs for alterations so we can trade it for a shavs. Path of Trade FTW

Actually, I do not trade at all. Everything I use is either found by myself or by 1 of my friends. The thing is that I do not complain about stuff simply because I choose to not partake in a specific part of the game. Like said, you do have the option to acquire the item you just choose to opt it out. You can trade 78 maps or keep farming until you get one of your own and then get lucky, either way your statement that you do not have the possibility of acquiring the items is flawed, it is not impossible it is improbable.

When I was mapping in SC, I was frequently the only person in the group who wasn't using a Kaom's and 6L Glare, or a Shav, or a 6L at all. That's because I tend to throw my currency earnings into crafting rather than buying gear upgrades after a certain point, not because I don't have the currency.

The group that'll be hit hardest by this change is the one that corresponds to me and my map buddies. We aren't a ladder group, though some of us have friends in ladder groups. (Ladder group is defined here by the purchase of 76+ maps in order to run as few maps in 75- as possible, since they're bad xp.)

This group is now no longer able to get the best uniques as lucky drops, because we mostly map 72-75. You know, the ones which don't absolutely require a maze, and which are reasonably cheap to acquire when the RNG is in a bad mood.

Suddenly, the bottom has fallen out of our supply of good uniques, since 76+ are a ridiculously small fraction of all maps run, whether ours or not. Effectively, the only remaining supply is from the ladder groups.

Do you know how ladder groups work? I'm sure you do.

The entire remaining supply will be traded between ladder group members FIRST, and friends of ladder group members SECOND, and everyone else LAST. Since there are people joining the first two groups continuously, it means these uniques effectively don't exist for the vast majority of the population. It means every high map unique dropped within the first couple months of a short-term league never makes it to the population at large, and only a small fraction of the ones dropped after that point do.

Goes double in hardcore leagues, since - quoting Qarl here - if you look at the statistics, if you want to die, wear a Shav. These guys will be back laddering with their buddies in a few days, check the Nemesis ladders if you don't believe me, and the next Shav that drops has already been reserved for them.

Everyone can get to merciless Piety/Dominus with a character capable of farming her/him. Everyone can farm currency at their own pace, whether in storyline zones or in maps. Some of these people, in the past, would have gotten lucky, and some would have gotten rich and then bought their shav from someone who got lucky. And some would have played the market, but you already knew that.

Not everyone can afford the time and currency investment that consistent mapping with the ladder groups requires. Not everyone wants to nor should be required to. That's fine. When that means they'll never see a BiS stat stick unique like Thunderfists, that's fine.

When it means they'll never see a build enabler, that's where it isn't fine. And the problem is not with map-only unique drops, it's with that particular build enabler, IMO. Which is a discussion for another day.

tl;dr I'm fine with it.
