When you look at the skill(gem) link, there is a CoCs gem linked. Cast on Critical Strike (CoCs) is the reason that makes this build possible. With this gem, when using causing crit with cyclone, EK will automatically cast.
just want to throw out some food for thought,

in the AA/tanky version of this build, the 6L gem combination:

Cyclone - CoCS - Life Leech - EK - EK - EK

the 3rd EK might not be worth it. Think about it like this, going from 1 EK to 2 EK's effectively doubles your damage output, there is no other support gem combination that can give you a 100% increase in damage.

Now if you consider going from 2 EK's to 3 EK's your damage output is only increased by 50% and if you're already killing mobs instantly when you crit it opens up opportunities for more beneficial support gems to take the place of the 3rd EK.

Gems i've thought about:

DPS:
- added chaos damage, this will be a damage increase to your EK's plus you'd gain a lot of dps on your cyclone
- added cold damage, simmilar to added chaos but additionally freezing/chilling mobs more reliably
- added fire damage, this will be a straight up 39% damage increase plus adding a lot of potential burn damage to the mix
- faster attacks, 44% more damage but will be more effective on a boss than an extra EK
- PCoC/increased critical strikes, if you're not already crit capped this will increase your DPS's reliablilty which will help on bosses, and improve survivability (less bad crit RNG)
-additional accuracy, crits double dip in accuracy. If you've ever been blinded then you know what I mean

Survivability:
- Blind
- LGoH, recover your entire life bar in under a second

Utility:
- IIR/IIQ
- Culling strike
- Pierce/Chain
- Faster projectiles
- increased AoE
- Mana Leech (for higher AA/MoM)


Depending on what serves the situation better I feel that a 3rd EK can be outshined by other combinations.

I'm sitting on top of 86.7% (main hand) and 84% (off hand) crit chance.

I took Vaal Pact and it works wonders.
You are completely unaffected by any kind of reflect.

When I cap my crit at 100% the only affix left that will be able to kill me is DESYNCH (or getting 1-shotted) :D

Tried Vaal Pact back on page 37 of this topic if you care to look. At first I loved it because reflect was no longer an issue. But after a while you realize you can't do other maps that were no problem before (aka any with chaos DMG) because if you don't have a pack to kill for 30 seconds it gets worrisome. Also if you get low on life ever then you have to gamble and use cyclone and hope you don't kill yourself because of BM. Also, you waste 8+ points going down to VP.

In other words for most people it's a bad idea.

For damage, I think the 3rd EK still outdoes most of the options you listed. The 3rd EK is more than 50% damage once you factor in Hatred because non of your listed damage gems benefit from Hatred and I'm not sure if they benefit from spell damage either which with decent gear can exceed 100% or more.

For the Increased Crit Chance gem, I don't have the exact numbers but could an extra 9-12% extra crit chance with 2 EK gems outproc 3 EK gems without the extra crit chance?

My char stats:
Acc = 82%
Crit Chance = 72%
Cast on Crit% = 68%
3 EK gems.

If I remove one EK gem and sub a Crit chance gem I would get about 12% extra crit chance. Can someone good at math tell which setup yields more damage?
