Low FPS Issues
" I could post some screens, if you think that'd help you in any way. I have to admit, you kinda got me stumped. The only thing I can think of is that raid array. The asynchronous way data is transferred may ( I guess ) be causing that sort of stuttering fps that you show in the screenshots. Do you have another single drive that isn't stripped that you could load the game onto and play from there as a test? Could be drivers, or hardware I suppose. But I don't know you'd test hardware without the hardware removal you were going to try already. I'm on some pretty old GPU drivers already. I'm at work right now, but I believe I'm sill back on 12.6. I could try updating to the more recent drivers to try and recreate the same problems you have. "I would have listened... Sorry to double post, but this may be a long post.
I've done some fiddling around to see if I can replicate some of the problems you had. Unfortunately, it seems PoE still runs as smoothly as I'd expect it to do. I normally game at 1920*1200, but to try and push things I enabled eyefinity and extended to the second monitor ( which is a 1080 monitor ) so the gaming resolution was 3840*1080. I would have hooked up the third monitor but I'd need to find my display port adapter, and get the monitor from the other room...it's a hassle. I still think this is a reasonable test though. The system used: CPU - Corei5 750 @ 3.9GHz Mobo - MSI P55-GD65 ( Gen 1 ) Memory - 8GB of DDR3 running at 572Hz ( doubled to 1144, I keep the frequency lower, but compensate with tighter timings ) GPU - Saphire raedeon 6970 stock ( and OC'd in later tests ) HDD - WD Caviar Black 640GB ( Gen 1 ) + a couple low power storage drives that aren't striped so they don't come into play. So I loaded up PoE still running on 12.6 of CCC:

As you can see, even at a fairly high resolution in town FPS is steady at 60 ( because vsync is on ) After this test I decided to go into some combat and make sure things looked okay there:

Still no change. Steady and smooth throughout. Next test I decided to try to create as much change and chance for bringing out this bus as possible:

In this picture I've cranked the clock speed on the GPU, lowered the power setting down to zero, turned off vsync, and updated to the same driver suite as you. There does seem to be more fluctuation in frames, but nothing I could notice. I mostly range between 115 and 130fps. For this shot I found Koduku and a bunch of enemies on screen to try to impact frames. As you can see it is mostly between 100 and 110. I'm very sorry, but with my set up as it is, I can't replicate the problem you are having. I do notice that my FPS isn't as steady as it was with 12.6, but it doesn't seem to be anything I notice in game. Nothing like the little blips where it drops to single digits. As you also seem to be on an intel chipset on your mobo, I'd be interested to see if setting up a RAID 0 array brings up the issue, but I don't really have a way to do this simply. Your CPU is newer, and should be more efficient clock for clock than mine. Sorry sir, but I'm not sure I've been too helpful. But this is all I've been able to do locally. "I would have listened... I am running the game at ~60 consistently and my specs are not even remotely as good as specs of the people who are having issues.
I have 1.6 Ghz CPU and mobility radeon 5870. (laptop) for some games I had to change the display driver to force some applications to think that i have a different type of graphics card (ex: mask my card as gtx 580), which improved my fps greatly. Some of you might want to do a little research on that and see if something like this can be done with this game. |

old post and still an issue ;)
