The problem is OpenAL32.dll and wrap_oal if you are using ATI cards.

OpenAL32 was designed by Nvidia, and as such it's designed to mess with ATI sound processing. If you play on a desktop, switch out for an Nvidia, and many of your issues will go away.

You REALLY need to stop spreading this around, and do a little more research first.

OpenAL is designed by Creative Labs and is for AUDIO... You're confusing it with OpenCL which was designed by Nvidia.

OpenAL has NOTHING to do with AMD/ATI video problems, and PoE doesn't directly use OpenCL.

I have NO idea where you're getting your information from.

Both the OpenAL32.dll and wrap_oal.dll in the PoE folder list Creative Labs as the company (because they're the ones that maintain OpenAL).

Either you're doing some creative editing, or you have severely outdated files.

Also, my file versions are around version 6 for the OpenAL32.dll.

This problem is NOT hardware specific. It caused enough problems on my last computer that I had to replace it. Guess what? It happens on this one too. These two PC are completely different from each other. Different boards, processors, video, sound, you name it, but it still shuts down randomly and without error reporting because it happens instantly.

I will try to turn down the music volume but if it continues my support of PoE will discontinue since I can't afford to replace another PC.

This is not only a game breaker, it is a computer breaker.

EDIT:4/26

Didn't work.

I've been playing PoE since it was first introduced and I love the game so I've bought points to support it, but no more. For now it's being uninstalled, I can't afford to replace this computer too. I'll read the forums from time to time and hope this issue is addressed. If it ever is I will definitely come back.

This is a serious problem GGG. I, like others who have had this problem, am able to play different games, many with higher demands on my computer, without any issue whatsoever.

I can firmly say that since I've had this issue on two brand new computers, both very different from each other, that it is not a hardware issue. The truth is that it's likely damaging every computer it's played on, just some more than others, and that's a damn shame.

To all you naysayers that swear it's not a problem simply because you don't have a problem I say; grow up. That's the lamest thing I've ever heard. Yes, software can most definitely trash a computers hardware. That's why Microsoft requests that all drivers be certified and I'm guessing you don't remember little hacks like Kriz and Magistr.

Please fix this.

Reinstalled PoE after i participated in the closed beta years ago.

A few days of playing and 30 hours of ingame time later, i experienced this problem, too.

My screen just turned black, a few seconds later i hear my computer booting back up.

I have a pretty good gaming rig, i74790k / GTX970 with a good power supply unit and fans. After this crash (the first crash i had with this rig in 11 months) i closely monitored my heat and psu and there are no spikes, nothing.

I have played over 1000 hours of TF2, Diablo3 and CS:Go with this rig, never had a single blue screen or crash.

I have the exact same setup as you, and I experienced the same thing, doing tiered map, came across piety's room and screen goes black, PC hard resets. Happened on her map about 3 times.

I fixed my issue because it was my GPU overheating, I smoke near my machine, and dust accumulates easily). Can you try reconfirm its not your GPU overheating please? use free program "speccy" and play. I know some spells in POE really are not optimized in high density, e.g. Disrcharge can causes severe FPS drops. I also disabled Post-processing and using the lowest graphic settings.

Thanks for replying! Yes i did do that, i already had speccy as well as other hardware monitoring tools.
I also played the open beta of Overwatch at Ultra settings for 5 days straight, no problems. I just uninstalled PoE, i won't risk a perfectly fine gaming rig because of one game. I also can't be bothered to change parts for no reason, at all.
Seeing a lot of garbage replies shifting blame onto users computers from "Valued Members" and GGG staff without any progress being made. There's a consistent issue here across many systems that can't be fixed by "watching your temps" or "Run Pack check". Bumping so GGG can hopefully get this fixed.
Bump
The only game i ever played to shutdown instantly.
I used to play poe day and night but now i can barely play for let say 30min if lucky or not maybe 15min.
My PC is ok if i shift to windows and do other activities but when iam back in game for too long which is more than 10min.. it will start to shutdown instanly. WTF?
My ram is more than whats being recommended. I always monitor my PC temperature and it never goes beyond 120'F.
i dont know what happen but considering there is no feedback from the GM or developer. I assume that they just dont care.
