You might get lucky, but is say it's definitely safer to buy one if it's cheap. I've linked 2 lightning coils. First was a 5 link that took over 300 fuse, second was a 6 link that took less than 20 jewellers and less than 30 fuse, so I guess you never know!

Another gem-related question: Lets say I want to use Etheral Knives (I obviously do) and I have 2 of those gems, but 1 of them has a little quality on it. Should I then use the quality one even though it most likely will be swapped out for a 20% version later, or use the non-quality one so I instead can make use of the recipe to get a GCP?

The unique shield you're using, is it possible to get a rare better than it for less than the shield is worth, or should I just aim to get the unique?
