We players want an auction house
my concept of how POE trade system should is not far from AH in execution but far at the same time in negative results
having a window screen that has a market on it with a - search function like POEXYZ - B/O and C/O only as reference(players still have to pm eachother) -offline/online status with recent log stats ( which time x player plays most) -comment from Owner about the item In general... this would be a matchup between POEXYZ and Forums in The game itself ZiggyD is the Labyrinth of streamers, some like it, some dont, but GGG will make sure to push it down ur throat to make you like it

The real problem here is terminology. Prior to Diablo 3, if you used the term "auction house" in a word association, the average ARPG player might say something like "Sotheby's;" now, they're more likely to use the term "buyout." So let's clarify.
In terms of the auctions themselves, we already have those: those threads in the Selling Forum are essentially unlimited-duration auctions, where both buyer and seller can pull out at any time. Thus, it would be kind of crazy to be against a feature which allows you to do the same thing in-game, assuming that the ability for both buyer and seller to pull out at any time was maintained. In terms of searchability, we already have that: third-party shops indexers. This is the kind of feature that will be available regardless of whether GGG wants it to be or not. Thus, it would be kind of crazy to be against features which allow you to make items searchable and search for items in-game. In terms of instant buyouts, we don't have those, we don't want those, and it would make things even worse than they are already. I'd like to conclude this in some way, but OP is the kind of jerk who would quote people out of context, so I'll just conclude with fuck Diablo 3. When Stephen Colbert was killed by HYDRA's Project Insight in 2014, the comedy world lost a hero. Since his life model decoy isn't up to the task, please do not mistake my performance as political discussion. I'm just doing what Steve would have wanted.

AH could work this way:
1. Players search for an item. 2. Item has its b/o price -> if the player has enough currency, he pays for it and gets the item (I think some kind of a special stash tab should be implemented for that matter). 3. Buyer checks his auction tab and grabs an item. 4. Seller checks his auction tab and collects his money. 2.1. If there is no b/o - then u set a c/o and wait for a seller's decision. To avoid any errors, misclicks or inconvenience, players should not be able to operate with any items placed outside that auction tab. Put on your red shoes and dance the blues. I quite enjoy the game, but for me, the greatest negative is the so called trading system. I started playing online games when they were text only, moved to evercrak and the greatest advancement was when they put in the AH, no more spamming your items in the "trade zone". Moved to WoW, the AH seemed to work fine there, played through the 1st expansion got married, had a kid and that was the end of gaming for me for a long time. Never having played any of the Diablo series I have no understanding of how an AH can destroy a game. I have looked online, and I can buy any item in PoE I want for real $$ if I so choose currently. Could someone please give me a rational answer as to how what we have now in POE, would be negatively impacted by having an AH? I like the game, but you have to trade through game design to advance, yet the system in place is so absurd. Hmm I have to go to another site, scroll through the offerings....Ahhhh there is an item I would like, link back to his post and then comes the real fun.....try and find the guy online. Feels like I have stepped back 20 years in time. |

I think people are forgetting that the AH didn't ruin D3 by itself. The RMAH was a black eye for sure in some peoples eyes. However what ruined D3 where the AH is concerned is the fact that the drop rates or drops in general were tied/coded into the AH. Blizzard never definitively said that however they did allude to that in several statements. This is what ruined D3. The fact that you almost had to use the AH to gear up and progress was what ruined it.
On the flip-side you can ALMOST say this for POE. But here it's trading. It's very hard to get at the end game level using your drops only. For some making it through act 3 merciless is not possible through self found. I know. I tried on one of my characters. I chose supposedly the easiest, less gear dependent, get all the gems you need from quests classes/specs out there, or at least commonly agreed upon on these forums. That is the groundslam marauder. I had to quit in act 2 merciless on him because I simply got no drops and could no longer kill or survive. It is far easier obviously on other creations that I've traded for and bought/sold. There is no comparison. I'm not saying it's impossible or this is the norm. This was my experience. The same experience that I had on D3 as well. Only with D3 there was the convenience of the AH. It has it's advantages. You can shop for the best price. There is no awkward trading where more often than not the seller is offended by offers made on goods they have not set a price for. Which to me is absurd but that's another topic. Now does POE need an AH? No. Do I think it will get one? No. GGG has stated such and I believe and trust that they stand by their word. Because right now their word is all they have. They are not some multi-billion dollar company that can afford to "not do what they say". Just as I believe them when they've said they will implement something to make trading easier and are already working on something for trading. That's all we all want I believe. I don't think the community as a whole is happy or satisfied with trading as it is because in this day and age of programming and technological advances compared to D2 there is no reason for there to not be something better. TLDR: The AH didn't ruin D3 by itself. POE doesn't need an "AH" but something better than what there is now...which essentially is nothing to accommodate trading. |
