In last days I've removed parts from PC and plugged them back approximately 12 times :|
No idea what it is, but it doesn't work - service and possibly new comp in next week that is. Still intrigues me why only in PoE this happens for me. | |

I've struggled with random computer restarts in the past on my current custom-built PC - I have an ASRock Z75 Pro3 Motherboard with an old, but still functioning Power Supply.
At the moment, the restarts haven't bothered me for a while - I can't pinpoint 100% the *exact* thing I did that fixed it, but I have a strong inclination to believe it was some BIOS settings. **Disclaimer - fiddling with BIOS settings can cause serious issues - what worked for me may NOT work for you. I'm including this information in case it might help, but I cannot offer any guarantee it will, nor any guarantee that changing the settings I suggest are safe for your specific system.** I think the restarts were, in my case, related to one or both of these settings in my BIOS, namely Spread Spectrum and Intel SpeedStep Technology. For my Motherboard model, these settings are found in BIOS>OC Tweaker>CPU Configuration. Disabling both, assuming they are present in your BIOS, may resolve the random restart issue. In my Software Setup Guide/Manual for the Motherboard, for Spread Spectrum, it says "This item should always be [Auto] for better system stability" but some Google searches I did on the topic seemed to suggest otherwise. As far as Intel SpeedStep Technology, they have a little extra info that says, "Please note that enabling this function may reduce CPU voltage and lead to system stability or compatibility issues with some power supplies. Please set this item to [Disabled] if above issues occur." I also noticed you have a Nvidia GPU - another thing I changed while trying to resolve the random restarts was disabling the Nvidia Streamer Service. It's part of Nvidia GeForce Experience and it was causing thousands of logged events in my Event Viewer. I found it odd that it was even running - Nvidia GeForce Experience explicitly said my PC was not compatible with the service in its GUI. Anyway, if you choose to try any of these ideas, hope they help. I made some other changes in my BIOS while trying to resolve the random restarts, but they were rather numerous, and I'm inclined to suspect the two I listed first. Hey, Thanks a lot for detailed info with help. I've browsed through my comp BIOS and sadly it seems to be too old to have such functions (I'm in fact thinking of checking for update if available). None you mentioned aren't present in mine BIOS, and as for NVidia Streamer Service I have no idea what it is but it was polluting my Task Manager since the start... Now I'm installing only Drivers and part responsible for Phys effects, no NVidia experience for sure (also it approves everything in my comp except my GFX, so theoretically it doesn't work, but it snoops all over the comp >.>). So far putting my Razer Barracuda sound card in and completely uninstalling the onboard Realtek drivers seems to have solved my lock ups. I was able to play a good portion of the afternoon without one lockup.
GGG please look in to possible conflict between PoE and Realtek audio drivers so others can avoid this headache. I hadn't bothered to put this sound card back in as I had removed it originally as when I first built this system I was having BSOD problems that I couldn't figure out the cause of. So I had to start a process of elimination to figure out what piece of hardware was the cause, and found out it was one of the sticks of ram that was bad. @Grayvind -- If you have a different sound card you can toss in your system that isn't Realtek then uninstall your onboard Realtek audio then toss that card in there and see how it goes. Wow, sounds like a plan and gratz on solving the issue! I have none other Sound card, but I'll mess around with drivers, however after another day I can put my right hand on that it only happens with PoE with my comp, conflict sadly might come from the game side. Will snoop around this - thanks!

As far as Onboard Realtek HD Audio, I've had a few issues with their drivers also.
Not having a stand-alone sound card to put in, my workaround has been to use Windows 7's "generic" drivers for the it, instead of Realtek's drivers. The generic drivers are pretty old, and don't seem to get updated, but they have gotten the job done, so far. Might be worth a try. :) |

This has just happened to me for the first time. I had just made it to the Vaal oversoul (which I have fought only once before) the only difference this time was I had spawned a decoy totem, just as the oversoul was about to 'hatch' everything went black.
Reading this thread I don't really know where to start. My PC is very up to date, maybe the drivers need some loving. | |

I've had similar issues mostly in act 3 mostly in the imperial gardens. Normally my computer never BSODs or crashes, although often when I was in the imperial gardens my monitors would simply turn off.
After about the 6th time I fired up my system monitor to see what was going on. Unlike other games, PoE was putting lots of load on my graphics card in that particular area, and it was shutting off at 100c to prevent overheating. It turns out that the nvidia software controlling my card fan wasn't speeding up the fan as it was heating up. The fan speed was set to automatic in the nvidia software. I changed it to manual and set the fan speed to 70%. I have not had a crash since. | |

I always monitor and control my fan speeds and hover around 30c for both my CPU and GPU. It's not a heat problem on my end.
I just came back to post that I locked up again while progressing through act 3 (same as before while I was still progressing through normal mode) in Solaris Temple and onward. It's always in the later half of Act 3 that is the worst for the lock-ups. Any other areas are usually fine unless I had been playing in Act 3 already. So it may or may not be a conflict with Realtek drivers. I really don't know what it is at this point. Sadly, I'm going to have to quit playing due to this. I'm not having my PC go through lock-up after lock-up just for one game when every other game I have on my system runs flawlessly. Sorry GGG, I'm outtie. I tried everything I could. I didn't read the whole discussion but it looks like I had similar problems like some of you.
I cannot play the game with my standard sound card due to random reboots of the PC within the first 30 min (mostly quicker). I've changed hard drive, reinstalled graphic driver and reinstalled the game itself without any positive effect. But I noticed that the game sound was noisy while sound in windows was fine. Switching the sound output from the Creative Audigy 4 to the Sennheiser USB sound card solved the problem. I would prefer another solution as I would prefer the 5.1 system instead of the headset for sound. But it works atm. A simple change of driver is not possible as the creative driver support for windows 8.1 (and 8 and 7) is horrible... Last edited by The_Rising_Sun on Feb 8, 2014, 12:37:30 PM
