My Take On The Whole Razer Situation.

I recall reading that GGG didn't get any money from this razer thing, it was simply GGG advertising razer, and razer advertising GGG.

Really? Where did you read this from? Source? If you're correct, then this is quite honestly the dumbest thing that GGG has ever done. Sacrificing the integrity of the game with logos from a real life company just to get some free advertizing? What?

Hmmm....

I guess I could live with this if the footprints were disabled after the "promotional" period ended. Then learn your lesson. Since no actual money traded hands, this was a pretty awful idea considering the integrity hit your product took.

I don't recall many players thinking this was great idea, but there was some understanding under the assumption there was monetary reasoning.

I don't hold people at fault for trying. But I do hold people to learning from their mistakes. I know he is a game developer and not super business savvy, so I'm not getting to upset. Live and Learn, that's all I ask.

Origination, as has been made clear: no cash was involved -- Chris said it himself on here, and I was surprised to hear it. When Chris told me about the razer footprint idea (it was a weekend, so he wasn't even 'at work') it was obvious to me that he really likes the razer dude and there was mutual respect, so each company wanted to give the other a shout-out.

That's all.

I agree that there isn't enough outlet to show off your shinies. I was hoping that Sarn might prove to be that area, given how large it is, but you're right: in an ARPG with private instances by party, you just don't have the same 'wow' factor with cosmetic microtransactions as you do in an MMO where people are constantly running into each other.

But it's all a bit experimental right now. There are other things coming, not the least of which will be the ability to rent league space to run your own private league with a number of customisations.

That all aside, if I tell you I've seen some figures (some devs felt it important to reassure me that I didn't have to throw more cash at them to keep the game afloat, amusingly) and that GGG's mtx scheme is working just fine, would you believe me?

Well then, if they truly didn't implement these because they desprately needed money, then I'm beginning to question GGG's decision making on things like this. Implementing something that is almost universally disliked the players for hardly any benefit really isn't a decision that they should have made. Hopefully they've learned from a mistake like this and never implement anything like this in the future unless it's absolutely necessary, because clearly the razer footprints weren't, and they should have never been implemented if they didn't have a really good reason for doing so.

Also, it really confuses my why they don't discuss things like this on their actual forums rather than discussing them on reddit.

Simply put, GGG sold out.

Best solution: Pay to play, monthly subscription, etc. In-game ads is NOT the solution, no matter how slight or underhandedly they're delivered.

No one said anything about that, stop spreading false rumours.
Also Charen already covered most of it.

They did talk a bit about it on the forum, read the news posts please(hardly anyone is reading it carefully). Also Chris's reddit post has already been relayed to the forums.

Thank god. Finally an outlet on the forums to discuss the Razer mtx.

But, quite honestly, this can only mean one thing: GGG is not doing extremely well financially. In order for them to have done something like this, it's glaringly obvious that they need more money in order to progress with the game the way they want to. Instead of cutting out features or delaying the full release or for whatever reason, they accepted the deal with Razer.

You obviously know very little about business if you think the only possible reason to do a deal like this is poor financial performance.

Chris really likes reddit, and probably doesn't feel the same pressure to be guarded and professional like on these forums. I would love it if he came back to acting like he did back in Closed Beta though. :)
I wish there were more razer fans on our forums...

Oh my God. I sure hope not because I already gave them more than $60. I don't think we have to worry about PoE becoming the fiasco Jayablows 3 became. We are all here because we already saw the great game we were getting before we paid anything. But with the Razer footprints move, there was a little bit of "doubling it" there.
