I'm going to leave my opinion since I really like this game and I also like the way GGG interacts with its community. I'll start by stating an indisputable fact: this is in-game advertisement. It might be very mild (that is not fact, it's very subjective), but it is advertisement. Another fact: it's NOT optional, contrary to what some said. If you play by yourself, you can turn it off, but you risk seeing it in towns and in parties, so it's not fully under your control.
I just wanted to get these two facts set into stone before I move to my opinion.
I'm OK with seeing these ads, simply because I never gave GGG one cent of my money. I do want to, but I'm struggling to make ends meet and giving money to GGG ranks low on my priority list (food and household bills come first). I'm truly playing for free, so it's fair IMO that GGG makes some money out of me through ads. However, I have two major points:
1) People who ever gave money to GGG should be able to disable seeing these ads.
2) I am much less likely to ever give GGG some money if in-game ads are not removed, or at least optional for paying players.
I'm not going to enter the debate about whether GGG is "ethical" or "evil" or whatever. They want to make money, that's fine, but consumer trust is easy to lose and hard to gain, and mine was somewhat shaken by this. Implementing the disable option for paying players would gain that trust back.
Id say +1, guess i shouldnt be surprised when i saw this

I don't think GGG's reaction in that post indicates that a disable option will never appear. I think they have the general stance that you can't modify game files, and that's typical of multiplayer games.
However, I also think you will not see a disable option.

Mmmhhh.
I want to make this clear:
I do not like these footprints. They are green. More like GREEN!. And I will never install any programm on my PC if it is not absolutely necessary, so I am out of this. However:
Anyone can give GGG money to have their own unique, an effect, or even their own monster in the game, or an avatar in the forums. Anyone can do this, and afterwards I have to live with the result, because eventually I will get to see/find it, even if it is not pleasing to my eye. GGG does this to generate income to give us this game for free. And nobody has a problem with this.
Now: "Cooperations are people, my friend."
So all Razer did was give GGG some money to design their own footprint effect, and GGG is giveing it to us for the low price of participating in a free trial of a program.
I really, and I sincerely mean that, do not understand what the fuss is all about.

For me its more than the fact that they look out of place.
Even in the game that i like the most there are now ADDS.
I hate the feeling to get affected (or at least they try).
You see ADDS everywhere: in the Train, in the streets, on the Internet, in your letterbox, on tv.
Basically everywhere you go and now even in Poe, a Fantasy ARPG.
That should be one of the few places that should stay clean.
For the people that dont get why there are so many people complaining: Imagine everyone just said they are fine with these little, tiny ADDS i would be afraid that GGG will Keep implementing this Kind of "Content".
I personaly would rather pay a monthly fee than getting the game spoiled by ADDS.
You have to remember to chase and catch your dreams, because if you don't, your imagination will live in empty spaces, and that's nowhere land.

See the bolded, underlined part? That is why you don't complain. The fact that GGG has provided your ungrateful ass with an amazing game that you don't have to pay a single cent for is why you DON'T criticize them for trying to make a business decision. Let me ask everyone for a moment what other games are 100% free to play and produced and maintained on such a high level other than Dota 2? Don't like it? Go play some flash games OR you can pay 40$ for a blizzard or EA game.
The complaining is just unbelievable. ITS A FOOTPRINT AND A COOL ONE AT THAT. ITS NOT FORCING YOU TO BUY RAZOR PRODUCTS, the only thing that is wrong with it is YOUR perception of the green symbol.

I am saddened by the introduction of this blatant in-game advertising. Frankly, not only do the new footprints not fit in with the fame universe, detract from the experience, and spoil the dark foreboding mood, but they are also obvious and blatant product placement in a game that should e better than that. People have responded to similar comments with statements such as "go buy a supporter pack then," but I've been supporting PoE since closed beta, I hold an Exalted pack, and I've spent probably $500 on thi game. If GGG keeps this negative trend up, they can't expect more money from me. Chris, I understand if the company needs funds, but I beg you: please don't put money before realism, profits before aesthetics, or corporations before your true fans.
GGG, I humbly ask that you tweak or remove the Razer footprints, or that you give players the option to disable them. Moreover, I request that you keep the game free of in-game advertising. Please, stay true to who you are as a company. You're better than this.
Supporter since closed beta
