What it means to have good defenses as melee
Aegis Aurora maxblock build with huge armor and decent 12k Melee Splash + Infernal Blow dps, enjoy the freedom to do anything in the game, here's some videos of the tanking capabilities:
3500-3900 hp life after aura reserves (depends on the passives, been regretting points lately) 1800 ES 30.5k Armour (60k granite) 73% Block 64% Spell Block First time ever in 77 Shrine, with lower gear than nowdays: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=prkMIPV7qMQ 71 Temple, Dual Bosses, -max resistances, elemental weakness, chain https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sT4FWCamVBk 76 Crematorium 6 players -max resistance, 94% extra dmg as cold: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xb_wuEuqPsA 76 Crematorium facetanking with a bit easier mods: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OpjXYODcWbE Works like a clock :) Last edited by Juhazzz#5503 on Jul 30, 2013, 4:13:42 PM

From your first video I see that someone died in your party and nobody seemed to be paying any attention to that, meaning that this is some softcore action. The action itself is really impressive, good job! You can definitely say you've beaten the game :)
But is the point you are making that melee is only viable in softcore at the moment? It's not like your character is magically pre-spawned already at high level with awesome equip. It's the build up that matters the most - the chance to loose your potentially awesome melee character on the way to high levels playing through cruel/merciless/early maps content is pretty big. Out of pure curiosity, what is your character's deaths count? |

" Hello ! Yes it's softcore indeed, which i shamely admit. I'm more of a HC player, but it's almost impossible to play with my connection and on top of that the massive desynch, this character started in Onslaught like my previous character, but i didn't make it even to merciless before i ripped to desynch :/ /death count is at 30 currently, but 10-15 of them are from making videos, testing things after leveled up, so dying isn't big deal (Testing 74 Vaal smash with endu charges, granites and so on, for example) And another 5+ from leveling the character. Also i've "kept book" where i have died and learned from mistakes, so now after i hit 88, there's no deaths :p (knock knock) I have the deaths in the Dragons Infernal Tank topic, i'll put them in spoiler here, so it doesn't look such a wall of text
Spoiler
86-87 level: 4 Deaths
#1 Elemental Reflect typical "eyes closed" situation, ele reflect rare mob <<resurrect>> #2 Temple Piety with -max res and badly geared (30% lightning resistance with the gear) #3 Temple Piety with -max res and badly geared (2 minutes after the first death here) #4 68 Level map Springs with double bosses, first boss died and the second one exploded the dead boss's corpse; Baaaaym <<resurrect>> 87-88 level: 4 Deaths #1 Elemental Reflect map mod, switched to Heavy Strike but it felt so slow, switched back to IB and 1 shotted myself instantly in a large monsterpack #2 Temple Piety with -25% max resistance, went in with low 44% spell block, 2 hits without block, dead. #3 Elemental Reflect map mod and -20% max resistance mod, switched for Heavy Strike but had auras on, somebody in party casts Elemental Weakness curse on Elemental Reflect monster (also map reflect) and 1 shotted myself with Heavy Strike #4 70 lvl Pier map with -25% max resistance and +98% extra dmg as cold. Not a clue what killed me here, it was instant 1 hit (again the importance of blocking / spell blocking comes up, as there were no melee monsters around) Edit: Current passive tree A lot of regrets lately, been testing stuff out, like on the one video i regretted 4x 6% hp nodes to take Unwavering Stance passive, after that i regretted to try out Static Blows, well now there's 15% armor from marauder start, endu charge duration, and the 10+10+30% armour-ring on the bottom section. Edit2: This build with correct equipment is really HC viable, only thing that can really kill you is Vaal smash; If you're not paying enough attention on what's happening, you're out of granite flasks, you have granite flasks but take the smash while you're shocked. But if i was doing this in HC, i'd never go to mess with Vaal anyway, neither would go to really harsh modded Piety, just for extra-safety. But overall this build is totally viable in HC, just should make sure you always have switch gem to replace Infernal Blow with some 100% physical damage gem, elemental reflect is not to be messed with and keep the correct flasks in belt / inventory. Opening up:
Spoiler
It's just hilarious sometimes when you're playing in party (softcore ofc) and you go to a boss like Vaal, Magaera, Piety, that's where you really find out the true softcore players. I keep casting Enfeeble on the boss and it doesn't take more than 2 seconds at max when somebody already overcurses with Elemental Weakness, Vulnerability or something like that, then they get 1 shotted and wonder what just happened. I haven't had any other curse than Enfeeble since i hit 88 level.

this toon is 3 days old (lev 80), so i dont have impressive 77 maps vids to present and my build is not rdy yet in terms of defense. this vid are with only 34% block/8% spellblock, no vaal pact. 7k armor 21k with flasks. full charged 38,4k aoe dps.
but hey, its melee CI :-) me vs mobs, im not stunned, just not attacking to see what happens. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m7RKv06dFOg kole, i think i can take two hit before i need to do something, like attacking ^^ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XTAPEvr8DW4&feature=youtu.be piety, can facetank any mod http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2cAflGMfPtE&feature=youtu.be killed any endboss up to level 70 maps in a few secs. a few bosses in higher maps are another story of course. didnt have a chance to test them yet.
