I just started playing poe. Can you tell me which build is best for beginners and I am also running with a witch who is building tanky however I get one shot easily and im level 33 in normal mode. I was doing a frenzy ice shot build. I do not know if LA is still better since they nerfed it. I heard ice shot was the new way to go. Can anyone help give me more info on what to do for my build?

I posted why a few pages back, but LGOH is better until later, you should find my post, on my phone atm. I only use 1 LGOH gem, don't need one for ele hit/single target. So as soon as you can link LA/LMP/LGOH/WED I'd go blood magic. 4L chest would cost an alch or less. 5L get faster attacks in there.

Mr Petrov,

I started leveling a ranger following your close beta build yesterday. I have reached level 45 and now I see you have updated your build due to Diamond Flasks being removed. I figured out that I can use all my respec points and 8 orbs of regret to get to your new tanky build. My question to you is this. Is the differnce between the old beta build and the new tanky version worth my respec points? Or is the beta build very close dps wise even without the diamond flasks?

I also would like to know if multiple projectiles works the way I think it does, in that it will out perform lightning pen when there are 2 or more mobs close enough to each other. Say for example there are 2 zombies right next to each other and you fire off a LA with LMP. Each zombie gets hit with a LA. Does each zombie also take the aoe dmg from the other zombies LA hit? Is this how it works?

Thanks a ton for you guide, it really helped me figure this game out. I just started playing a few days before open beta.
Look forward to hearing from you.

The real difference between the old beta build (choice 4) and the new ones (choices 1-3) are twofold:

1. The new ones rely on Resolute Technique, the old ones relied on Dexterity for chance to hit
2. The new ones cannot crit (or use diamond flasks), but they hit all the time. The old one had the ability to do massive "spike" damage when using diamond flasks which was great, for example, for boss killing or a "panic button".

Now, with no diamonds currently in the game, the old build has to rely just on regular crit chance to crit. Crit chance for bows is a low base, so it's hard to build a lot of crit chance in the skill tree to get your actual crit chance much above 20%. To make a crit bow build with that sort of 20+% crit chance, you have to sacrifice some base dps and probably HP nodes.

More importantly, you'll have to gear towards crit chance and crit multi damage. So you'll end up saving up for Maligaro's gloves, high crit damage quivers and bows, etc. That's fine, but it also reduces flexibility on gear (and yoour gear will be more expensive to trade for), because you still need flat ele damage, resists, etc etc on your gear too.

Remember, GGG have never suggested diamond flasks are going away for good - they'll be back soon enough is my guess (and that's purely a guess!).

Petrov.

Is Resolute Technique really usefull?

I have about 92% hit rate anyway. I dont feel need to increas accuracy. Loosing all crits feel like loosing more than gaining. How are your experiences with that?

Hello MrP. I read your initial post and a couple of your other posts and I have a few questions for you.

My ranger is level 66 and I've messed up in quite a few places, so i'm going to level a new ranger. I like to solo and I want to be fairly beefy just in case I get lag spikes or whatever,do you recommend your 2nd build for that?

I've acquired a lot of orbs and can afford all the gems, which combinations of supports/gems do you recommend I use? How much life leach/LOH should I have at end game? Also i've noticed you don't take blooddrinker, is there a reason for that?

Lastly about how much life and damage reduction from evasion/armor should I be aiming for at around lvl 65? Do you ever use armor gear since you have all the extra strength nodes or is it purely evasion gear still?

What's the optimum HP I should aim for? I'm at 2700 at lvl 64. Thinking of sacrificing some Hp for DPS.

I'm not sure what the deal is with ice arrow. I have both leveled to 16. I have used both while farming docks in merciless, and I gotta tell ya... LA wins 1000 fold. Sure ice arrow shows alot more dps on the tooltip, but for bringing down large packs of mobs there is NO beating LA imho.

Try for yourself. Don't be fooled by those big dps numbers. The built in aoe of LA is just far superior to the cone of Ice shot, especially when your surrounded and spamming like crazy to stay alive.

I'm rocking 2700 after auras and I have had some very close calls in maps. And thats with 7k armor and 75 all ele resist. Then again, the best defense is a good offense...

Hi there! As you can tell, I am not Mr. Petrov, but I can answer some of those questions. For your 5L I would def recommend Lightning Arrow, Weapon Elemental Damage, Faster Attacks, Lesser Multiple Projectiles.

For life leech you really only need the life leech support gem at end game. It has been pointed out however, that in early game life on hit gem is much better due to lower dps numbers. I would guess that life leech will surpass life on hit at roughly 1k dps. Just a best guess on my part, I'm not good at math ;)

The reason why, with these builds, you do not take blood drinker is because blood drinker (and all other forms of life leech other than the support gem) is based on your physical damage done. With these elemental damage builds, your physical damage is almost nothing, so you will leech almost nothing. For example, my Lightning Arrow is at 2400 dps currently. Of that 2400 dps 12-35 of it is physical. No that's not a typo, these are real numbers from my character sheet.

For your last question, I am not entirely sure what to aim for. I can tell you that at level 75 using Mr. Petrov's shock/tanky build I am sitting at 7k armor which shows a 43% reduction.
As for using strength gear, there is no reason why you can't if the stats are good, but you will get more armor from evasion gear due to passives. Also keep in mind your chest armor causes movement speed loss and I think pure armor chests cause more movement speed loss than evasion armor.
