Viper strike does not require u to tank boss and I think its your choice to take atm.
Personally I didnt use viper much since I was lucky enough to loot a carnage heart(unique amulet with attributes, res and high life leech) that really helped a lot until I got a better one from trade. U may want to try it since the amulet should be really cheap now if u do not care that much about the roll.
At last, just as someone mentioned, do not hesitate taking life nodes, I took more than the guide says and I feel quite smooth until I enter merc. Dont worry you have plenty of regret points for them.

The Lightning Thorns skill, as cast by the Blackguard Mages, now does lightning damage to ranged as well as melee attackers. It does less damage than before. The casters have to be closer to use it and have a reduced chance to cast it.

I had Life on Hit linked with LS initially (which doesnt work with Ghost Reav), but Inval's build doesnt use LoH or Life Leech gems...so how does he manage mobs?

Edit: I'm thinking perhaps I havent leveled enough to get enough physical damage for daggers (450~ base dps in town, 90-260 physical of LS) to get enough ES leech.

Thats why they say dont go CI until in fellshrince act2 merci, where you can farm zombies up to lvl 67(70on hc) i got 2,4k ES and didnt switched yet too, planin to soon tho cause i just went into fellshrine :)

So only help for you invest into more expensive gear, also use bloodrage witch gives life leech too, 2,1k es is suicidal to progress

PS: Anyone know whats best 4L combo for LS to farm fellshrine 57-64lvl ? i dont have 5L yet :/ thx
