Update: Knian, my physical caster, is now finished.

His damage output is pretty ridiculous with the two +physical damage uniques. Please take a look at it :)

Summary: armor/health based caster that uses ethereal knives for physical damage (hatred + added fire + faster projectiles)
Zaviel the Tanky Chaos Inoc Shadow with Reflexes of Iron

My main is a level 66 Shadow named Zaviel. My build is about making a durable yet mobile mage with good crowd control power. I use ES/Evade armor with Chaos Inoc and Iron Reflexes to do that.

Early on in this character's creation I had a talk with Rory about projectile mechanics; I wanted to know if AOE increased the size of the Spark balls. Sadly they didn't, because when I first created this character I was thinking of a full-on lightning dps build, making my AOE so large that the Spark balls would hit a target twice when it pierced right as it pierced for being so large.

As time went on I learned that being tanky is just plain better than being a glass cannon, thus my build went from crazy theory-crafting to what you see now.

Passive Tree:
Ability Explanation:
Spoiler
My primary ability is Spark, I've tied Greater Multiple Projectiles and Pierce onto it. This combo does great damage to large groups of enemies. To do maximum damage when enemies are not in too large of a group I use my Whirling Blades to get close to enemies and hit them with more of my sparks for more damage, then Whirling Blades back out as my shield drops.

My secondary ability is Viper Strike, tied together with Increased Duration, Faster Attacks, and Increased Accuracy. I've only started using it recently after playing around with my build so it is not currently as high as I want it to be but oh well. I use it to tear down tough enemies.

I use Whirling Blades and Lightning Warp mainly for the movement they give me. Whirling Blades is what i use the most because it is faster but i enjoy porting up cliffs with Lightning Warp.

For groups I use Enduring Cry to kite enemies around softer allies. I can't level it due to my low Str but I don't need to level it at all to keep the taunt.

The auras I use are Clarity, Grace(for armor), and Discipline.

Itemization:
Spoiler
I itemize for evasion and energy shield primarily. Due to my Chaos Inoc and Iron Reflexes all the Eva/ES armor I wear greatly increases my tankiness. My primary layout is a 80% crit dagger and an Eva/ES shield. Mana regen is also important for me due to the large amount of mana I reserve with my auras.

Play-style:
Spoiler
Since I've maxed my ES regen as much as allowed with passives the tankiness it gives me flows well with the armor from iron reflexes. I like to kite enemies till there are none left to fight me. For flasks I have four resistance flasks, one of each element, and a diamond flask. Four of my five flasks cure freeze/chill because I REALLY don't like being frozen or slowed.

I finally hit level 59 with my righteous fire marauder, so i can use my shiny new toy:

Unavailable

Currently: 3219 life, 88% resist all, pre flask

Skills:
-Righteous fire (Increased Area of Effect
-Shock nova ( concentrated effect, life leech, blood magic, Iron will)
- Purity (RMC)
- Vitality (RMC)
-Sheild Charge (Blood magic)
-Enduring Cry (Blood magic)
-Phase run, Elemental Weakness

You're using spark in the video, aren't you ?
I'm very interested in this build since I'm also running a righteous fire marauder. I imagine the unique shield makes it much easier.

I'd like to see your gear, from the outside it looks pretty good.

A last question, it's a hardcore marauder, but since what level have you started to use righteous fire ?

Name: xJac
Class: Shadow
Weapon: Dual Wielding Wands
Passive Tree
Main Attack: Power Siphon
Unavailable

Pyramid Video

Brief Description:
Primary focus is on critical chance (83.7% and 67% crit chance w/ full charges), then critical damage (500%), physical damage (125% ipd full charges), and attack speed (50% IAS full charges + 10% more). Defense uses CI for the advantage of blood rage, as well as the advantage of the abundant int from this build.

90% of the time, monster crumbles into tiny ice shards; this means necromancer is just a fat piece of exp dummy; and skeletons are treated no differently than other monsters. This build also emphasize on becoming stronger with charges; increasing dps potential by 60% from full charges, multiplicative. That is twice the bonus of Pain Attunement, without having to be on low life. Finally, but not least, this build takes advantage of the dual wield bonus as well as the abundant attack speed nodes right next to the shadow starting point; hitting 3 attacks per second even without frenzy.

Yeah i switched to spark once I realized that casting it was more than just a gimmick :) That spark is only level 8 in the vid

I started using Righteous fire at the first level I could equip it? 19? 24? Been using it the whole time.

I posted the gear somewhere, but ill add it here as well for those interested.

A good ethernal knives build would be awesome :D
Proud 5th duelist in the Jul 1 2012 Ladder Race and in the Nov 3 2012 Solo Turbo Race :D
And even prouder 4th Templar in the Nov 10 Four-hour Party Hardcore Race :P
Current OB success:
top 20 Ranger in 105 Minute Turbo Solo (S4E9)
How does build #8 hit anything with his wand? He has no accuracy nodes that I can see, no accuracy support gems, nothing. Yet the character seems to almost always hit its target!

It's a strength+int build so I doubt projectile weakness is enough to provide enough chance to hit. (reduces enemy evasion from projectiles)

What am I missing here?
Is he using some type of wand or other gear with added accuracy?

Projectile Weakness is 30% less (read: final multiplier) chance to evade.
He's well over-leveled which makes it much easier to hit stuff.
He has a non-negligible amount of dex.
Even in the video he doesn't have a 100% chance to hit. Felt more like 80ish.
PalavaKostaja - lvl 59 Righteous Fire Marauder

Main attack skill: Righteous Fire with Increased Area of Effect. The entire build is devoted to using this skill as a damage dealer.

Other Skills:
Whirling Blades with Life Gain on Hit to move around, deliver Righteous Fire to evasive enemies and escape tight spots. The damage this skill causes is insignificant so the skill is left at lvl 1. It is linked to Life Gain on Hit to provide extra life gain during battles.

Freezing Pulse is used against single tough foes when the damage from Righteous Fire is not enough to kill them. Freezing enemies also helps survivability. It's supported with Life Leech for defense and Iron Will for extra damage as the character has a huge strength total.

As support he utilizes Elemental Weakness combined with Totem. Usually it's use is necessary only against yellow mobs and fire resistant enemies. He uses Phase Run so no time is wasted during Righteous Fire and Enduring Cry to add survivability. Three Auras are used: Vitality to add to his already massive life regen and Purity for +resistances and most importantly, +maximum fire resistance, finally Clarity is linked to Blood Magic gem to counter his otherwise horrible mana regeneration. He spends most of the time on low life anyway so the reserved life is no issue. I have been planning to also add Grace linked to Blood Magic but don't have the slots at the moment.

Passive Tree

Key passive nodes are:
1) Increased maximum resistance nodes to help keep Righteous Fire up
2) Life regen nodes to help keep Righteous Fire up
4) Endurance charges and life regen for endurance charges to help stay alive
3) Life nodes for staying alive and more Righteous Fire damage

Everything else is unimportant and only picked to reach those key nodes. Further development will be taking just more life nodes.

Equipment:
- Saffell's Frame unique shield for +5% max resists. I reach 88% resistances with this, 98% fire after drinking a Ruby Flask.
- Ambu's charge unique armor for +2% life regen on low life. Also had resistances and a bonus for teamplay with shared endurance charges.
- Fire resistance items to reach maximum fire resistance (82% at the moment).
- After fire resistance is maxed every item is chosen for as much +life as possible.
- Armor and evasion equipment is preferred because energy shield is almost totally useless with Righteous Fire running.
- Redbeak is used as weapon because it is one of the only weapons with +life as a mod and also the character spends a lot of time on low life where the +100% damage shines. Also being a sword it allows the use of Whirling Blades.
- Flasks are very important for this character. Two slots are used for Cautious Life Flasks (extra healing on low life) and two for Ruby Flasks for +10% maximum fire resistance. These flasks keep the character alive very effectively during Righteous Fire. The character kills enemies fast enough to fill flasks that Righteous Fire is sustainable for very long periods. The last spot has a Cautious Life flask of Dousing, very important for the ability to turn off Righteous Fire before reaching 1 life.

Gameplay:
At the moment I have 4,2k life which ends up with 2,1k DPS Righteous Fire.

When facing mobs Phase Run is used first to run around and attract more enemies. When a large bunch is gathered Righteous Fire is used and the character wanders through the mob, using Whirling Blades to reposition himself. Against tougher opponents Elemental Weakness and Freezing Pulse is used to support Righteous Fire. Freezing Pulse deals significant damage with bonuses from Iron Will, Redbeak and Righteous Fire.

The build excels against hordes of weak and fast melee enemies like the squid spawn and monkeys in the forest. They die to Righteous Fire before they have a chance to attack. In the caverns of act 1 the character can actually just activate auras and Righteous Fire and run through the entire dungeon while using flasks. The corridors are narrow enough that Righteous Fire kills everything along the way.

Ranged monsters take a little more work since they don't actively walk into Righteous Fire's range. Whirling Blades is used to catch them quickly so no time is wasted. Casters are not very dangerous since the character has very high resistances to all elements.

Single strong melee opponents cause the most trouble since their attacks have to actually be defended against. Areas containing fewer stronger opponents also lead to some trouble due to the risk of flask charges running out. Some curses are also very nasty. While Enfeeble and Temporal Chains are no problem at all, Elemental Weakness is a total killer for this build which is why an extra Ruby Ring has to be carried around in such areas. Vulnerability is also very nasty with its +40% damage from damage over time effects which makes Righteous Fire much more damaging.

If I party with some very high DPS characters Righteous Fire is not necessary for killing enemies. In that case I will go full tank mode and just keep 5 endurance charges and elemental weakness totem up. There is no need for flask use in this mode as 4,2k life, massive damage reduction and 300 life regen/second keeps me alive very efficiently.

The character has just finished Merciless and is very good for running the pyramid due to insane resistances. The only thing that prevents efficient pyramid runs is the fact that Righteous Fire doesn't affect totems which makes clearing rooms with 'allies cannot die' totems a pain. Vaal Oversoul was a pushover. With the massive life total and so high resistances I was able to tank all his attacks with flask usage.

EDIT: Updated post after some leveling
EDIT: Another update after finishing merciless
EDIT: Updated skilltree after 0.9.12 patch. I was a bit worried about the reduction of Life Regen node values and how they affect my build. I lost almost 1,5% of life regen and 1% of max resists due to skill tree changes. However, I was able to grab over 500 more Life thanks to the lesser number of nodes required to get everything I need.
