Looting -- The official thread for discussing the loot system. Updated 18th March, 2013.
Permanent alloc is ok, but if they had gone for full instanced loot, they would also have gotten rid of "screen of loot" problem.
Also, why aren't 6s and RGB perm alloc? |
|
" What if i dont do that, and they actually saw me from just off screen stop and not pick up their item? "hey man your exalt here!" "thx!" then I get extra credit. " The problem is they dont need friends anymore, they just join pugs and get the same thing I could do. " Yes, it was my kill dammit! |
|
" So you can no longer feel superior by having friends and not take stuff from them? Big.fucking.deal. |
|
" How about the other side of the coin (you know the truth) where the same thing happens and you just take the exalted orb... This is why we have PA, so players don't have to count on people being nice/generous to get their loot. " And I say that is a good thing. If I enjoyed party play more I would not want to rely on having friends online at the same time as me to have an enjoyable game experience. Previously these people just played solo, now they have the option to group and you are upset? Its not about YOU, its about the entire community, and this is what they want. " lol, this is the main reason people don't want to be 'forced' into PA. They want to be able to break their gentleman's rules whenever it fits their needs. " Yes! Sterilize all player interaction it will make the game so much more fun. You don't need friends and bonus: you don't even need to be nice to anyone! I bet that part works out good for some people. " What kind of a game would this be if we had a poll for every game design decision from the beginning? its almost a certainty that any "majority" will be wrong anyway - I trust talented game designers to make that kind of a decision like I would trust a chef with my food. I don't know better then them if I'm the average consumer. Chris and the gang have said many times they think the game is most fun with loot tension. Look at the original design and all the adjustments to the loot system that have happened - FFA, super short timers, longer timers, longer still timers but removal of names, and finally options. The other problem is there is no push back for these kind of game systems - for example everyone who lost some loot to ninjas was willing to complain, but how many people are going to just suddenly be motivated to go praise the loot system because they are managing to get by? Its like at work, you don't go to the IT guy and praise how well your printer is working, but if it breaks down or jams all the time you will. Between names getting put on items so people could clearly see someone "ninjing" and this one sided reporting, its no wonder we are here. " I actually had a conversation about this one time with them and we all agreed to sell a mirror and share the orbs if we ever got one. Also, I was making a joke, people used to always yell that in D2 when someone took an item they though was theirs. Sorry you didn't get it. |

^^I got the joke, hence the lol.
I would say that I also trust the game designers nearly completely. However, there is a reason they ran a CBT for so long and now an OBT. They want player feedback to make the game BETTER. Looting options did precisely that, they made the game more enjoyable for a majority of players. This, in my opinion, has made the game better. Now if they simply put every piece of the game design up for debate it would turn into a mess obviously. Trusting the developers has two very different sides to it as well. You have to trust their initial judgement as well as trust their ability to act correctly based on feedback. Not simply caving to the demands of a player base but picking out the demands/feedback that is actually relevant and will positively impact the game. I have a lot of faith in the developers and even more so when I see them make intelligent decisions to alter their own vision based on community feedback while still remaining very firm in their stance in other areas. " What makes it "their" loot at the point the game assigned it to everyone (which happened after they refused to pick it up while it was assigned to them)? " Why? Last edited by exit_zero#4816 on Jun 20, 2013, 7:58:39 PM

Every single piece of game design IS up for debate in the forums. Looting just happened to be the most controversial out of all of them. When something is that major it makes developers take a second look at what they want out of it and what its worth to them.
I trust the devs are smart enough to tell the difference between feedback that would devastate the game for reasons the consumer does not understand and feedback that would only slightly alter the game for the good of the consumer. Looting options did not devaste the game. It just changed its course which has upset some people who were expecting something different. Standard Forever

" The whole point of being nice to someone is that you don't HAVE to do it. If someone is nice to you in PA by say giving you something you need, then you know for sure they are just being nice because they have no other reason to do it other than they are just being generous. The idea that people can't be cool to each other in PA is wrong. " I like that a lot. Friends are still better for a lot of reasons but its nice to still have a good experience with anyone who is online. I respect people who disagree but thats how I like it. Just wanted to chime in and say that I am very happy that made the change. I'm more likely to group and more likely to interact with my fellow players :)
