Looting -- The official thread for discussing the loot system. Updated 18th March, 2013.

That sounds really awesome and a good way to handle looting
nice =)
I think the suggested system would be great, ppl need to pay attention if they want to take a part of the looting game aswell.
This will award the players that do pay attention and are focused on the game and gameplay, while the players who are just tagging along for a strole killing enemys will not get awarded for their lack of attention and focus

On the subject of FFA looting; IMO it's a terrible system that discourages group play, causes to much loot drama and is really just counter productive. The system encourages bad manners and bad game play.

There is nothing like being involved in an intense fight and a group member stops what they are doing to go grab some loot leaving the rest of the group to pull that persons weight while they are rewarded...

We all remember those Baal runs from d2 and how annoying it was to see all the drops go to whoever could click the fastest or the guy with the auto loot picker. It was common for ranged classes to have to stand up in melee range just so they had a chance at drops.

Frantically clicking the ground in hopes of getting any reward for a boss kill is bad. Everyone involved should be rewarded.

The timer system is more of a cop out than a solution. Any compromise in the looting system should promote fair distribution of rewards. I for one do not want to see another D2 pinata style loot system where everyone behaves like a bunch of spoiled children.

Totally agree, really the one thing hellgate london got right was the loot distribution.
Items are spawned for each player and you don`t know what the other person got.

Fighting over loot isn`t fun at all, especially when people use cheats to instantly pick up items like in d2.

I agree with the loot system Lavacon describes. I believe that D3 akso uses this loot system.
Just add a "blink" ability gem so that any ranged character (or melee character) can blink once at an expense of high mana cost to grab loot.

It would be a fun skill to use in general PvE / PvP too; last resort escape.

Char spawned loot, invissible for others would be a nice solution.
Since well blink ability and wall spell, and possible other skill we havent seen yet.

Perhaps different leagues for different looting systems? Personally I'm against FFA in public games, as it discourages playing together. This is an entirely different matter in the future cutthroat league obviously.

This is a good plan to prevent spam clickers. That was annoying in D2. Players would also get auto-loot mods that really exploited that. This system would prevent against that for sure.

I kinda like the D3 system though where only you can see your loots, and if you pick up and drop it, everyone else can see it.

However I know that POE doesn't aspire to be a "clone" so this system would keep its uniqueness.
