Looting -- The official thread for discussing the loot system. Updated 18th March, 2013.
Currently, I see little need to play in a group. Just like d2, you can if you want but it isn't required. Becasue of this pick-up teams will be scarce, but you'll find others you click with and form your own bands if you want, at which point the loot system shouldn't be a problem because you can decide amongst yourselves how you'd like to handle it.

Having a disincentive for playing with strangers makes it less likely that you'll find others to click with within the context of the game. (League?)
If you bring friends from outside of the game, that's great, but circumventability of a mechanic does not excuse its failings or justify its inclusion. I imagine that, having used such a brilliant logician's surname for your handle, you can appreciate that. |

Not reading through all the pages here, but I prefer allocated loot, as I think anything else really discourages team play/PUGs.
Moreover, if a battle is ongoing (several mobs), a melee character might still be engaged in fighting while a ranged character could theoretically swoop in and scoops up the piece of loot. I've played games that operate that way; it's very sucky indeed. |

I agree with wyllam819 nothing more to add.

I do believe that a 1 second wait is a bit short. why not lengthen it out by just 2 seconds maybe since if someone is playing for hours on end (this would include me) their reaction time diminishes so 2 seconds is still enough to keep the adrenaline but it also helps people make the conscious decision on what to pick up. also (any bowman will agree here) why not make a way so if you click on an item which was dropped by something you killed so` if you click on it you "claim" the item so nobody else can take it after you've clicked on it to pick it up unless you move away (so you're not going after the item)?

" The only thing I take issue with this sentance is the word arbitrary. It insinuates that hiding allocated loot from other players isn’t a valid design decision. There aren’t many design decisions that are arbitrary as most have their own pros and cons. FFA loot isn’t an inherently better or worse design than hiding allocated loot – each have their benefits and consequences. That’s all I wanted to say. I’m sorry to pick on you Chris, but I just wanted to point that out. Also, I’ll be playing the game no matter what decision you guys make. Personally, I'd like to see a voting system, whereby group members can vote on which type of loot system they want. This would at least solve most of the issues, loot will drop differently on a case by case basis. Happy Days Abound. Last edited by Silver#3607 on Jul 4, 2011, 9:36:15 AM

Being that this game is a hack'n'slash game, primarily involving the concept of loot. In my opinion a FFA loot system is suited for this type of genre, but it can become rather frustrating when someone else needs a piece of loot but you have 'dickheads' who charge in and take everything.
So I am leaning towards the idea of allowing the party leader to choose what option they want for loot gathering. Need/Greed rolling is a MUST have! However, not the only option as this can impede in the pace of a hack'n'slash. Therefore, my conclusion is: Give players more options - let them decide... it takes the hassle off of you. in my opinion loot system should work like this:
who deals the biggest damage to the monster is able to pick the loot from the ground in 10 seconds after mob's death. After it item can be picked by anyone. If a group of friends hunts together and they share the loot, that's not a problem, bcuz even if one person takes loot, it can later be given to other friends (^_^) betabetabetabeta

" How would this system work for PUG's (groups of random players) especially if 1 player is overpowered than the others. Is it fair for him to get all the loot because he does that little bit more damage? Who then would group randomly? You cant say every group would have to be preset with friends only... And the higher more powerful your character...the les likely people would group with you because you'll out dps and get all loot? The Exiled Clan www.exiledclan.org Recruiting all new players now!
