Adding more options to games is generally a bad thing. The goal of the game designers is to create a system of restrictions that challenge the players, rather than throw in dozens of options and allow the players to try to find a fun game in there somewhere.

After thinking about this quote for a while, I tend to disagree. I like the looting system as is, but that adding options to alter rules is generally bad strikes me as an odd statement. It's like cooking a chili for fifteen people and not putting the tabasco on the table for the reason that you are supposed to hit the taste of every guest spot on.
Disregard witches, aquire currency.
GGG could include 4-5 additional loot systems. Players would not have the ability to set the loot system. The game would randomly assign a system when a new instance is opened. So one area would have the timer system, the next would be full FFA, the next instanced, the next would only have currency instanced, the next would have timer with additional 3 seconds to base etc…
IGN: Wrathmar * Paulie * Client
That sounds horrible.

I just did a map last night with +105% quanity, my character has +60% quanity. I would bet at a few points tehre was FIVE times that much crap on the ground, no problems at all.

If I take my finger off the alt key almost all of it disappears. I have no idea why anyone thinks this is a problem.

Cause in most of any other situations (in town, at vendor, inventory, even at battle with less dropping stuff) its much more comfortable to use 'always highlight' - and with this active, Alt did not change that much to be able to see where you point your mouse.

Well, the game encourages party play. So it is pretty annoying when someone takes stuff for example. Yes we come back again to that timer or whateverelse.

Biggest issue is:

Ok, no big deal I disable AlwaysHighlight and can press highlight when needed. Then bang, mob pack, we fight you move click around, end up in inventory full of crap. Because you still take items from ground. Or you die because instead of moving your char took an item and stopped.

Ok no big deal again, we disable AlwaysHighlight, then bang yellow/orange drop, no highlight for me, I missed, didn't look whatever, item gone , taken by party members or just messed around other items.

And it is just really annoying when you see an item you want next to you, you click, and char goes far far away for it. And all that BIG list follows you.

FFA...
gives you a reason to make friends. when you travel with friends the usually won't try and grab something that fell with your name on it unless you walk away from it.

FFA is not a requirement to make friends.

And the second part of this argument argues against FFA. It says "party with friends only or you may lose out on stuff."

This is my biggest problem with FFA. As it stands, I will party only with friends, or I will solo. I will NEVER pug up with strangers. I am confident many other players feel the same way.

Friends in a game promotes longevity. You are suggesting that FFA is a stick rather than a carrot: 'make friends or FFA will getcha!'
In a very grind heavy game the death penalty equates to...more grinding.

This line has always intrigued me. FFA isn't something to be liked? However its good for the game?

I really can't think of anything else in the game that is something I don't enjoy but is good for the game. Yes even dieing. If dieing wasn't a part of the game I wouldn't find it interesting. Without challenging enemies to kill me once in awhile I wouldn't find it interesting. However I see no reason why people who only want a pve experience should be forced to this pvp loot system. If the devs want us to have more challenge then they can do that through the game and not pitting us against other players.

Obviously it's good for the game because it keeps people like me from wanting to party. I mean, the chat system makes me not want to talk to anyone, the trade channel makes me not want to trade with anyone,... when's the single player version of PoE coming out that doesn't require an internet connection?
