good golly! do you even play this game?

So you want settings that force people into a play style that the game host decides? as it is now you have FREE WILL to do whatever you want.

Wow. I just watched someone will themselves into believing that fewer options equals more freedom.

Wow is right!

Every loot option other than FFA is a restriction on what people in that party can do.

Very simple, got that so far?

Next, what happens when every public/private game is only instanced loot? Which is almost 100% certain to happen because everyone is paranoid and will assume if someone makes a game that’s FFA it is because they just want to steal your items.

Wonderful! Now you don’t need to make friends, and nobody needs to trust anyone else. Now you don’t need to pay attention to anything other than just clicking that monster over and over, and just going from game to game – heck you don’t really need to even help fight at all! Just follow the leaders and just pick up all the assigned loot just for you.

This would be total shit, I am sorry you do not see that.

But you would have the freedom to start and join the type of game that you wanted to.

To be clear I do not want a fully instanced loot system. I want GGG to tweak the current timer system to be more player friendly

FFA in itself is a restriction against people who want pure PVE, so its not any better. Anything other than FFA is another option for people to choose which as a result is more freedom to the player. Your not forced to play something besides FFA just like people now aren't forced to play FFA and instead might choose to mostly play solo.

I certainly don't view that as 100% certain. If I enjoyed FFA I would hope that there would be at least a portion of the population that also enjoys it. If no one does then I don't really see why that would be the only option since it would obviously push people to play solo if they don't have trusted friends online.

Your not required to make friends to enjoy playing some coop which I think is great. However you obviously still can make friends which is great because you have people to chat with, trade, help, and share stuff with. Why should you be required to trust people to play coop?

Of course I wouldn't hang around someone doing that. I would question the sanity of someone playing this game who doesn't want to help kill the monsters. Isn't that the point of getting better gear? But at any rate that still goes on with FFA and its even worse because those people are also picking up your share of the loot.

Not the thread I'm talking about. The one I'm thinking of Mark responded too.

Paper cut's thread was in fact the one that Mark commented on. The thread got a little longer since Mark looked at it.

Did he edit his comment out? I don't see him in that one.

I remember a thread much longer. Perhaps in patch notes threads for some reason. That seemed to have more responses.

Dunno though, could be mistaken. But I do remember a dev commenting in it.
He commented on it in the patch notes. He didn't want to take that thread as proof that many more people would play in public games with more looting options. I kind of agree with him since I found that thread to be pretty unclear. I think that thread proves that people have other reasons that they don't like to group. But I still think its significant that so many people listed FFA as one of the reasons they don't group.

So basically other people doing what they want = less freedom because they wont be doing what you want. That is stellar logic right there.

I see nothing changed, those "pro"-ffaers still giving the same puzzling arguments that defy all logic, lately culminating with a new height, and i quote: "loot options = less freedom".
Is downright staggering.
