Looting -- The official thread for discussing the loot system. Updated 18th March, 2013.

I prefer the suggestion, a number of pages back, where people could 'vote' at the beginning of each instance for the loot system they prefer, whether individual, ffa or whatever. That way there would not be all of these fragmented leagues...

Sounds good to me as well.
Creating different loot options, be it when you enter an instance or just different leagues altogether, is a fucking terrible idea.

You want a system that wouldn't discourage complete strangers playing together, and both of those would create rifts between players. People who strongly prefer FFA loot will be either playing by themselves or only playing with others who like FFA loot, and the same for all other styles.

The developers should stick with a loot system that doesn't disadvantage anybody, or discourage complete strangers partying together, and use only that system.
@Septile.

I don't understand your post. If people want loot options a certain way, why is it bad for them to choose? If only 3 people want loot to be FFA, well, I hope those 3 people get along! It won't be anyone's fault but their own if they choose a loot option that isn't widely accepted.

The leagues themselves are already going to fragment the player base, so your point that different loot options will add to further fragmentation doesn't seem that salient.

Because it's an unnecessary amount of extra work, even if it would only take 5 minutes to implement. It's just idiotic, inefficient, and trying too hard to cater to everybody. Remember what happens when you try to cater to everybody? HG:L.

Leagues aren't going to fragment players for something stupid like stroking everybody's loot preferences. At least, I hope leagues serve a more useful purpose than that.
Pretty sure that leagues have been announced with different loot options. So this conversation is moot for fragmenting.

Also adding the option i would say make a league in beta see how it works. If it works well go ahead and use it if not scrap it. Can't hurt to try all the options.
Yes good sir, I enjoy slaying mythical creatures.

I didn't see that anywhere.

I don't think that there were any official statements on that topic too
I like the idea of cut throat in that sense anyone who played D2 knows all about the mad grab for items. 1-2 secs certainly isn't alot of time, have you guys tested this against latency to see if you can react to that ammount of time?

Apparently they account for latency and character distance when defining the item allocation time limit. People with a high ping may get an extra second to grad their loot.
