Dragon's Immortal Tank (Updated for 1.2)

This build is awesome. Never ever any pewpew char again, just infernal tanks ;)

I hope GGG will not fix(nerf) the aura trick..

Hi!

First i wanted to thank you for this awesome guide. I started in the anarchy league following it because i was stoked about the idea of doing high dmg and being nearly invulnerable.
I did not have any problems in normal (at first i used geofris baptism) and cruel. Later on in merciless i had some serious worries because my dmg wasn't high enough and i have gotten frustrated. This was my gear back then.

another random ring, belt an boots.

You see, i just had a 4-linked armor and i guess that's the reason why my dmg output wasn't that high. I went for the bloodmagic passive to link my helmet with infernal blow, melee splash, multistrike and weapon elemental dmg. Well, i did not want to spend my currency for some bad 5-linked armor just to get the fifth link. No, i wanted to save it and buy something awesome. I had luck with some drops (2 eternal, 1 exalted) and made some good trades and finally i could afford a bringer of rain helmet. It wasn't cheap (5 ex) but it had close to perfect stats.

So, all i needed was aegis aurora and i was lucky too. I don't know if you are playing anarchy, but there aren't many of these around, at least not for sale. Poexplorer doesn't list any most of the time. Well, as i said, finally i was able to buy one for 3 ex + 1 eternal.

My dmg was good, i can't remember - i think about 6k with infernal blow and i was tanky as hell.

But i wanted to enhance the build and my gear for even more damage at a low cost.

I was fascinated by this facebreaker build too, and so i tried to combine the best of both builds.

http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/407618/page/9

I bought myself a well rolled facebreaker

and the result was awesome. Since the latest patch I was dealing around 14k damage with infernal blow and facebreaker. It was hard to get enough resistance, because i don't use an armor and facebreaker. So all gear slots I had left to provide res were my boots, and rings. I forgot to say, that i switched to meginords girdle, because of the insane dmg boost with facebreaker.

As for the boots, i bought rainbowstride.

That decission was easy, because i really needed resistance and more energyshield to profit from aegis aurora.

And i guess this was the moment, when i asked myself, how much stone of lazhwar is really needed.

I'm still not sure if I will use it again in later maps (piety and stuff), but currently I'm not using it anymore. I wanted an amulet with res, life and maybe lifeleech, because i only had 2% from passives.

Baaam! Bought this baby for 10 gcp and it provides all I need. Life, energy shield, res, lifeleech and a decent amount of rarity.

Well, after writing all this I'm asking myself what I want to say. I wanted to thank you for this build and the idea with aegis aurora and stuff.

I just speced out the nodes in the duelist area, since i don't benefit from the 1-handed nodes anymore (with facebreaker) and my dmg is high enough, even without the 12% attack speed 20 dex node, and put the skill points in the armor/energy shield nodes on the left of the templar area and some block nodes. With my next passives im going for the life nodes right of the duelist area.

I tried to change your build for my special needs, and I think I did a good job, and now I'm really enjoying playing may character.

My core stats are:

2988 Life
991 ES
11905 Armor
185 life regen

Fire Res 77%
Cold Res 82%
Light Res 77%
Chaos Res -60% (I know I have to work on that)

74% chance to block attacks
23% chance to block spells

Infernal Blow DPS 12330

Current build:

My gear:

Auras: grace and discipline on blood magic (malachai), determination, vitality, hatred and tempest shield on mana.

Bandits
Normal: 40 life
Curel: physical dmg
Merciless: endurance charge

Thank you and good bye.

Dragon, you say you still rip with this build in SC? What would you change about it in HC to handle tougher 75-77 maps?

Nothing. The build works great in tougher maps, it just requires top tier gear. I would actually like to improve my own gear since the life nerf. Before 0.11.0 my hp was good enough for pretty much anything, but it feels to low now imo.

Remember I said quite a few times that it is a bad idea to try to specialize in several type of defenses? I still stand by my claim that block paired with hp is by far the best pair to stack. The build provides enough armor for a majority of mobs without investing points into it. The ES is just a buffer for AA. The real ability to tank those hard 75-77 maps comes from the high block chance for AA procs, paired with a good sized hp pool and hp/sec.

Since 0.11.0 my hp has been disappointing in some higher maps. I used to be pretty much immune to status effects from all but map bosses and lately find myself being shocked by blues and yellows. This is a major reason why I have been unwilling to incorporate any more unqiues into the build. In my eyes, if the item doesnt have LOTS of hp on it, it isn't worth a slot now. This is ofc for extremely hard endgame maps and isn't necessarily a requirement in the beginning.

I am looking forward to the future though. Even though I have reached the end of gaining levels quickly, it will only be a couple more levels until I am at 75% block chance and can begin taking more HP nodes. I have been thinking about dropping some block to grab all available hp nodes but decided that 2% block > 6% hp. I may just leave that final 1% block node alone and remain at 74% block and begin to pick up some more hp.

No idea how this turned into such a wall of text from just 1 question lol. Sorry.

hi. a axe with attack speed 1.10 is too low for this build?

If you have Faster Attacks and Multistrike linked to your IB I would say no it isnt too slow. Slower, hard hitting weapons are IMHO the best choice for this build due to the recent nerf to hp and consequently hp/reg. BM attacks are now sort of dangerous to have with insane attack speed and high mana cost.

Improved endgame build lvl 90 block capped. I can't believe I missed this, but this build provides the exact same as previous 90 build, but also gives 20 more dex and puts us in range of some very interesting passive options post lvl 90. Also, makes a possible ranger version of the build reality.

will you make a video doing 75-77 maps too? maybe crem boss and piety shrine? :P

and its amazing to see you have such a tanky build with 10k dps attack O_O, not to mention the corpse explosion effect that isnt shown on the tooltip for IB

I was wondering what did / do you die to?
They can always make a loser league where Monsters do no damage and you one shot everything. Goodness, people, just don't play in the hard parts of the game if you cant handle them.
Um, I think they fixed The Covenant aura swap thing. Can you confirm this?
