Dragon's Immortal Tank (Updated for 1.2)

Hey Dragon! I made a new 1H build I want to try in light of the changes to melee...I am planning on running it in HC. I was inspired to give 1H Melee a go b/c of your guide and was playing a 1H Infernal Blow from your guide prior to dying: I lost my HC Marauder due to bad play/lack of awareness (There's a boss in City of Sarn??? A hard hitting boss that spams EK and throws bear traps!?!?!?!?!? NOOOOOOOOO!!!!! LOL)

If you get a chance, would you mind taking a peak and weighing in? It is lighter on life and doesn't take Res Tech in favor of some nice crit nodes. I think critting with multi strike Infernal Blow would just be DEADLY.

i just started with this in Onslaught and its fun, but with 0 equipment there is no DMG :D i still manage it quite good i think

Thanks for the guide
Hi Dragon, you're build was a source of inspiration for me (principally the whole aura stuff)

I'm playing a facebreaker marauder on HC currently lvl 65, i think i'll try take down Vaal tomorrow.

Some hours ago i dropped blood magic to get aura on my mana and even with only three of them (Grace, determination and hatred than i can trade for vitality, discipline, tempest shield)

The power up is incredible reached 50 % physic reduction with crap item (aside from my daresso my chest give the most armor 450 HAHA) and i still got 6 endurance charge Ready !

here is my tree :

https://www.pathofexile.com/passive-skill-tree/AAAAAgEAAecFLQ6tEuEUIBjbGS4aOCFgJ-0otSmlMgk1hjboNuk6UjqzQKBDnEp9TipPfVBHUFBRYFRJVgRXDVhjWfNbr18_YEtgiGEhYVJmnmegcH1yqXTtdPF673zZgFaE74Zgh3aMz5BVkc6dqp65ns2fy6cwp4Splayquc253bvtwBrG2NIh1I_ZYd0N42rnUu8O707yL_ZI97760vzF

It need some refund to get the full of it but basically it's not different from your's, i just avoided the elemental weapon and one handed dommage (that don't work with FB)
Other difference are only to my own preference.

So Yeah, Your build is viable in HC Dragon !

Ok it's a fb build but it only mean than you would be more tanky than me (gloves cause FB doesn't give any sort of res, life, etc) and deal less dommage (FB hurt like a fucking truck)
And yeah more versatility since you have a weapon slot, and i will do my best to get a bringer of rain. (no chest armour)

The playstyle is the same i believe since i ended up Facetanking pretty much anything i encountered,(aside from Vaal smash and Piety Fire and ice form) and made them explode with infernal blow.

Good continuation to you.

Effective how? Are you talking just dps or overall? Because without testing I can tell you this build wouldn't do well in high end maps with no auras. Purity and Vitality and Grace are pretty hard to give up.

I'm talking about tankiness in general without all the auras, like if I were to group end game with this build with no or limited auras (example 4 auras) would I be able to tank effectively?
i also started this yesterday on HC. everything is going pretty smooth. im lvl 35 now. right now im farming cruel ledge and using

i also have
ready

my other gear is pretty crap and in lacking lots of resistances.. i need some good dps 1 hander and lots of resistance gear. but with geoffris i have sick dps now on my heavy strike and infernal blow +500 both. actually heavy strike is 699
Thank you for the update, Dragon.

I addded the +% shield block chance nodes from the passive tree you took and it seems it's +27%. You have +34% on the shield and +4% from tempest shield, which adds up to 65% block chance.

It's still 10% lower than the cap, don't you wan't to go for capping the block chance at 75% with such a build? Or is it undoable?

You are trying to do something that I have never done or thought about doing with that build. My opinions on it would mean little as I really only consider myself an expert on my build and not an expert in all builds in general. Your build looks interesting, but seems more of a pure dps build to me. You only grabbed a few actual shield nodes so it makes me wonder why not just go DW? Anyways, like I said, not really my area of expertise :P Good luck to you.

Yes, I do believe this build is perfectly endgame viable with only 4 auras. Ofc, the auras I would be dropping would be a pretty steep loss in dps. I am not sure why this question interests you though. Even if the covenant trick gets fixed there are still BM gems and I can not see myself sacrificing 4 auras for any reason.

I really wanted to get block capped, but I find that it is just to hard without more points. Especially now that the patch has destroyed a good chunk of my resistances forcing me to spend more points to get capped. I currently have 3 points in sword dps nodes to boost my damage but in all honesty I was 100% satisfied with my damage before that patch and now I think I may drop those dps nodes in favor of block/hp regen.

After doing 6 temple maps the other night I can say with confidence that Vile Piety is seriously insanely hard post patch and 2k more dps is not going to help me survive her incredible burst damage. I had hoped to get to lvl 90 with this build so that I might get to at least 70% block chance, but my luck with map drops put a stop to that dream.

Thanks for those of you posting after trying the build. I am glad so many of you are happy with it so far. I have been getting a lot of requests to start this build in onslaught. I am actually considering it for 2 reasons. First, it would help me make the leveling guide a bit more helpful to others since I really don't remember to much of how I actually leveled my mara. Second, it would allow me to prove the build (and myself) in HC. Assuming I have what it takes and can get my hands on an Aegis Aurora.

First thing is first though, I owe a dear friend 20 more exalts for giving me a 6L shavs for my farming templar at an amazingly good friend price :) I want to pay him back asap, but RNG has other plans!

After more testing and brainstorming, I decided to add a level 90 endgame build just in case :P
I have actually switched my personal build to reflect that but only because I have enough points to gain the benefits of the change. Sub level 85 players should still stick to the core build, and switch to the endgame build later on. The net gain for my personal mara was 2% more hp, 30 more dex which allowed me to run max level grace which gave me more armor, and more es.

Check out the OP for the new endgame version of the build.

Why Multistrike? Granted I'm only level 52 and using a 4L, but dropping Multi and adding WED raised my sheet dps by about 50 and more importantly doesn't lock me into place and lets me whittle down a specific target so the chain explosions start happening faster.

Is it a gear thing?

Sorry if this has been asked before, 25 pages is a lot to skim.

Using multistrike makes melee splash radius a bit larger as the radius is based on which mob you are attacking, so if you spread the love more will get hit if that makes any sense. Not to mention it helps with desync by allowing you to hold your attack in place button down and still hit things if you are out of sync. I used to use MPD, but after switching to multistrike it was game over.

The general concept of the build wasn't at all focused on dps. I was focusing on survival mainly. But this is my choice. Multistrike FEELS better to me, and I am very satisfied with my clearing speed. I also have 5 life gain on hit and MS increases aps by a ton, giving me much higher hp incoming. People laugh at only 5 lgoh, but I tell you what it is VERY significant. But I can't say that MS is better than MPD. It is up to the user, but I recommend multistrike.
