First Bex then Chris, now Rory has left, POE 1 is all but dead now. GGG is done.

This is a bad omen for GGG without a doubt, but Chris Wilson departing and not a single word of thanks or an official goodbye was a huge red flag imo. The man was Path of Exile and the fact that everybody treating it as normal that the figurehead for this game just casually dipped and then we're back to business as usual still seems so strange to me. It doesn't make any sense at all.

Without a doubt. Thought about it yesterday, the timelines are pretty strange.

Iirc Chris announced at Exilecon 2023 that he will be leading Path of Exile going forward. That was around fall of '23 I think. Then nothing has been heard of him, next u know in the PoE League reveal, Mark is sitting there as PoE director. A few months later (april '24) Chris sells his shares of GGG to Tencent and is never seen again.
Even if he wanted to retire, why not at least give a farewell to the community and introduce Mark as the new Game director. He wouldn't have to say that he's leaving for good and damage PoE2 with that, just retire from PoE officially.

It's weird and really sad how things are going lately and it's starting to worry me :|

I’m not saying it’s what I believe, but Bex serves as a precedent of someone (seemingly amicably?) leaving GGG without any official goodbye posts - so with the two of them & Rory having all left without one, maybe it’s just GGG culture not to do that for whatever reason.

Some might say Chris is a different case, but… I’m not sure I agree. If other community-facing members of staff had previously left without being afforded the opportunity to post one, it’s possible he would have felt uncomfortable getting special treatment. Especially if he might even have originally weighed in on whether or not others should post one when they were leaving.

He was one of the people right on the pulse of the game, just like Mark. I think he also worked alot in the support department as of late.

Yeah Rory_GGG.

How sure are we Rory is Rory..?

I mean, there’s;

Support were known to have a RoryF, and possibly others besides.

Recently I discovered BenMH_GGG, who I want to say is the first double middle initial I’ve seen…

Well, first of all, that’s not how you use the ‘quote’ feature.

Secondly, you’re stretching the definition of “official goodbye posts” awfully thin there… Rory had commented on his new gig on ExTwitter, too. But that’s a far cry from a post on the official forum about it - you’re talking about them speaking in a personal capacity. Compare it to the Diablo community getting an actual blue post from Bashiok when he left Blizzard.

Thirdly, I’m not sure you’re really contradicting my response to TempestMind. If GGGers only discuss their departure in tweets & Chris never had a (known) account, obviously he wouldn’t be in a position to tweet about it. My point regarding the past precedent that had been set is still valid imo.

Or, they get new blood and things get better.

LMAO! d3 devs tried this, and their lead game designer didn't even know what a HoZ was..

That idiot Jay Wilson didn't even like Diablo 1 or 2. He wanted to change almost everything design wise. "Fuck that guy!"

ironically, i found the open beta gameplay video of d3 to be amazing, even today. it's crazy wtf went wrong over there.

RMAH video of devs apologizing and saying it was removed was gold too
