Crafting-- It's not just about the Economy
" Of course, the first choice/option is better. However, I've pretty much given up hope that GGG would recognize something so blatantly obvious: RNG on top of RNG within RNG = obsolete, flawed design. BTW, I have real money to spend, and it would have been nice to give some to an independent development company whose game I enjoyed. Problem is, I only enjoyed it for such a short while. I guess they don't want our money. Apparently, they aren't reading our posts much either, so... see you guys in another few months. Last edited by jeois#3290 on May 2, 2013, 1:20:06 PM

I have a 3rd option for you, Undone: killing hard mobs, getting loot as if you killed face-roll ones.
I kill map Brutus and his entourage of Champion Poison Arrow archers - I get blue 1-shocket loot. I kill Merciless Piety/Vaal - I get mostly whites + a level 3 Unique with 1 socket. Merveil? trash. Bandits? 2 whites on average. Gravicius? nope. ........ multiply this x100. add hundreds of hours farming high-risk areas. stash full of trash. best currency = 1 Divine Orb. got from trade. drop one? don't make RNG laugh. damn it, what am I still doing here? Alva: I'm sweating like a hog in heat
Shadow: That was fun |

There's also an imbalance in crafting certain items. I, for one, will never craft a weapon except for linking; too many affixes.

" What kind of tips can you give people that they don't already know? The game's crafting "system" is horrendously basic. Start with an ilvl 78+ base (some items require 79, so be sure to look around) and either alch + chaos them until they turn out something good, or throw tons of alterations + regal + triple exalt. Stop when you get something that has decent sell value and sell it. It's not a particularly difficult process other than the fact that it's horrendously random. There's no real way to get "good" at crafting. You just need to get "lucky" and have a lot of currency. |

" I was going to disappear for another month or two, but I decided to come back to this topic because this "cut-throat" and "hardcore" theme was still bugging me for some reason. If this game was really hardcore, it would take serious math or skills to craft something decent. As it stands, the most efficient way of getting decent gear (not the best gear but just decent) is to trade for it. And by "efficient", I mean frustrating: trading is a serious pain, which GGG says they'll fix. BUT, that doesn't solve the problem that the utility of using the orbs on items would still be far less than their value on the market. If the game was really cutthroat, then new players would be able to backstab rich players and make it to the top. As it stands, certain players (e.g. streamers, wealthy) have distinct advantages that make those scenarios unfeasible and help them maintain their wealth (much like modern monetary society). The devs seem to like it this way, but what they don't realize is once the number of noobs farming decreases, wealthy players will have to farm orbs for themselves, which will be great. But by then, the game will be in its death throes because the key to any F2P game's success are large number of noobs buying micro-transactions. We can already see the results since OB began. There aren't many so-called esoteric builds that are viable. Everyone is using the same half-dozen or so OP skills because the cornerstone of the game is facerolling and rolling dice. You can't have build diversity when decent gear are so orb-expensive to craft; it's just not worth the investment. Most players wind up trading for the same type of gear to match the same few viable builds. Moreover, adding more useless gem skills doesn't help. Plus, you can't use support gems unless you trade or get lucky with sockets/links. In conclusion, if you think luck = hardcore, then yes, Path of HP is very hardcore. If you think cutthroat means devising a scheme for ripping other players off, then yes, loot ninjas and scamming are cutthroat. |

" Some facts you state are alrdy wrong. Like that "78+". It really depends on what you're rolling and basicly its 77+. Though if buying eg. alrdy linked items, theres some other tips I could give.. I also can give tips on what to craft, what kind of mods are available/you should search for. What people pay most for. Hellalot of things you don't consider in your ragepost. Grow up, your post already proved you haven't crafted enough. Even if crafting system is ridiculous, it doesn't mean you shouldn't try to make the most out of it.
