Why is it so important to have a "map pool"?
Im just about to start using my first maps. Think i have around 7 lvl 66 maps. Been reading some post saying its important to have x amount of maps. Why is this so important? I mean i use the maps I have when i run out I farm som more??

lol, that doesnt count, you show you have billions of 70+ maps and afterwards you show only one 66 map without 70+ maps. if i had that many 70+ maps i wouldve vendored the 66 maps anyway.

Now onto my real question: Is it normal i keep having bad luck getting maps? i run lvl 69 maps, always alch em with 50+% quantity but i always do 3 runs without map drops and one run with one lvl 69 map run and then another 4 run without... So now i lost all my 69 maps (had 20)... You cant possibly say its bad luck? this game is cheating!

I am having a similar experience. Before the patch, I worked my way up to 76-78 roughly following this guide but not to extreme, maybe 1-3C per map to get good rolls. I had around 20 maps from 73-78 and now I am down to level 72. A map that drops (-1) is a good one. Quite disappointing.
To be honest I did not try to maximize quantity, but settled with maps that look doable and had around 80% iiq. But still, the average per map should not be below one map drop of the same level.
My experience after the patch. Low level maps aka 66-70 drop a lot. When playing medium maps (71-73) you really have to have good roll (inhabitations except goatmen), larger packs, magic monsters etc). Also did around 5 labirynths and barely saw maps dropping, after that went Mine map few times and every run had 2-4 maps (record was 5 with legendary 74maze). We play 2 or 3 men party.
Since the patch it's terrible. I'm level 83, worked my way up to 74 (always had bad luck before). Now i've just used my last 69 map. No exp there so it's just grinding for maps. I've been rolling quantity on them + Chiseling (im chiseling 69's ffs..) to get maps, but I'm out.

Did they lower the droprates to counter bigger maps or something?

Unless i'm doing it wrong..

Map drops were hit once straight after release, with reduced IQ of monsters. I'm 99% sure they hit them twice with area increase.

It may just be that we have been getting lucky, but I've found that maintaining a high level map pool has been significantly easier since the patch. Until there's proof otherwise, I don't think we have a reason to suspect drop rates have decreased. With the larger maps, I think its slightly easier to maintain a pool.

Very eager for Lyralei to fully update the guide. This is an extremely valuable resource.

proof? your the only guy saying its easier to maintain maps while we lost all our 70-74 maps...
Well yes, but its possible that the sample is rather biased as the people who lost out might be more likely to post about it than the people who are doing just fine. Just a thought. It may well be that the map rate is changed, I'm just not convinced we have the evidence to say either way at the moment.

On a different note, earlier in this guide, SunnyRay posted a map spreadsheet to try to help to decide when to reroll a map. I've requested for him to update it based on the new patch and also to add what I think would be really cool functionality - including the probability that rerolling the map will improve it. This will be in terms of adjusted IIQ of the map which takes into account pact size, etc. I personally think having this distribution information will be quite helpful for giving a quantitative way to decide when to reroll.

However, due to the recent patch, Kripp's previous data in terms of the probabilities of different mods appearing is outdated and not very useful as new mods are present, likely changing the probabilities. Thus, I'm trying to create a new unbaised sample of map data to figure out the probabilities of different mods appearing. For this, its key that every roll of a map (or none) are stored, and only new maps are added that have not been selected (ie not a bunch of hard ones sitting around in an inventory).

Thus, I'm looking for people who are willing to help to add to a database of unbiased rare maps so we can form good distributions for SunnyRay's algorithms. Kripp had ~360 maps which was used on the old database, and it would be nice to get that many here too. Please PM me if you are interested in contributing. I will probably be able to achieve this alone, but it will be a lot faster if I had a couple others who could add a bunch of maps after alching. The best is to alch like 10+ maps and then add all of them to the database at one time.
