The real problem will shift to: how to get rid of 66 maps, sine you have so damned many of them.

You vendor them for higher level maps.

Too many low level maps is never a problem.

True. But given that you mostly can buy a level n map through selling 2 level n-1 maps, I find this psychologically surprisingly hard.

I should probably do the right thing and just vendor 9x66 for a 68 though, just to get rid of them.

Who wants to piss around trading maps like that? More effort than it's worth.
This is one thing I don't understand about so many players in PoE, why piss around with trade for an hour, when you can just take an insignificant currency hit, and spend that hour playing, more than making up for that 1 chaos you managed to haggle off the price.

Often I feel that I give away more stuff than most players farm, because you know, sometimes I like to play rather than idling in town.
Is this guide still up to date?.. I see it is last updated in may. A guy from my friend list said I should only use alc/chaos on 70 maps and above, not on 68 as this guide say?

Cheers
The guide does *not* take into account that you can buy maps. Its advice on currency and low-level maps should be read keeping that in mind.

If you do not buy maps, a 68 map is valuable and should be upgraded with alc and chaos.
If you do buy maps, you can easily buy a new 68 for a chaos, so using chaos to upgrade a 68 would be silly.

Level 66-71 maps are dirt cheap and anyone within an hour of farming can manage to buy a decent pool of low or mid level maps to run.

Using this metric:
66 maps - 5 for 2 chisel
67 maps - 1 chisel
68 maps - 1 chaos
69 maps - 1.5 chaos
70 maps - 3 chaos
71 maps - 6 chaos
72 maps - 16 chaos

I would advocate not chiseling anything under level 70 and certainly not chaos spamming anything under 71 unless your currency pool is extremely limited in which case you may want to chisel 69s as well due to their guaranteed benefit.

One way ive found to maintain a map pool is to set incredibly high standards on your map rolls. Maze-able maps must be mazed and must be mazed decently well (60 Q + maze or maze + pack or magic) sarting with maybe level 73+. Non maze maps should be rolled to either have 100 Q - 70 Q + pack size or 70 + magic mods or in some maps 70 + area. Obviously this is going to require a ridiculous amount of chaos orbs but nothing 2-6 people can not manage to acucmatle from a few hours of high level mapping or farming.

Some examples of well rolled mazes:
Maze Maps

Some examples of not so well rolled mazes I might continue to chaos spam:
MAze Maps 2

Some examples of well rolled non-mazes:
Non Maze

This is correct. The resource assumes that you do not purchase maps because there is no way to gauge the differences in prices as they vary per league, otherwise it is accurate as it can be.

I've been busy with the job-hunt, but I typically update it if anything major comes in future.

It's confirmed that "signature monster" actually involves a pool of similar monsters - I've got two Islands with no monster names in common.

70 maps are 3 chaos ? hmmm maybe I should buy some
Something else to take note of. Boss room mobs are independent of regular map spawns.

As proof of this, I played a Sea Witches Crypt. In the boss room, I met skeletons. (Also met one pack of sea witches, but there were definitely skeletons in there.)
