[Camera] It's too close!
I have to agree. I've been playing only during the beta weekend but the short range of view was a problem for both melee and ranged-oriented characters. In my opinion of course.

I have no problem with the current camera style, do you guys want to see yourself as big as a character on a age of empires map or something lol?

I like the camera being up close. It means you can see more detail and you know what everything is.

There has been a nice screenshot comparison between, D2, TL, and PoE, in another one of these threads. (Feel free to use the search funtion to find it) But in this comparison, PoE is actually zoomed out further, than in either of the above stated games.

" I dont understand that Age of Empire map comment. How does a 15% extra zoom equal that?? I was also just pointing out that you can see more in Diablo 2 and in my opinion that works better. You can also see more in Diablo 3, Titans Quest, Torchlight, Torchlight 2, and Grim Dawn. They all have farther cameras because it just works better for this style of game. " Not in the screenshots I see when doing a google search. I also own Diablo 2, Diablo 3, Torchlight, and Titans Quest and they are all farther out than Path of Exile. EDIT: Found the thread and it seems people with different resolutions have different field of views. I am way closer then any of his images. He also stretched his screen wide to give more side view. It still doesnt make the top and bottom more visible. Last edited by Artophwar#3021 on May 25, 2012, 2:57:30 PM

OK, I don't know about you guys, but to me the zooming "issue" is so far from a problem for me that I wouldn't even mention it in light of other things the game is still missing.
I think it's fine. The game is totally playable and you can see at least more space around your character than in D2 by my estimation. Plus keep in mind that this game is graphically intensive compared to D2 and you should seriously think twice before asking for a larger area of visibility because it means it will be more demanding to render. Maybe you can handle it, but I certainly can't. To me, the game is fine as-is except for the glaringly missing content which is being addressed patch by patch. I hope we can all let this issue go for now and let the developer's focus on something that we can all agree is important: PvP, Act 3, Act 2's Boss, Trading, etc. Last edited by teacherpeter#1699 on May 25, 2012, 10:35:49 PM

POE has ridiculously big zoom-out when you compare it to any other Diablo-clone. SC2/Dota2/WC3/LOL/HON and other third person games with similar camera angles have significantly less to show on the screen.
Also, as far as I know, bows have "infinite" range, so increasing the camera view means further increasing the potential range of a bow user. My Keystone Ideas: http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/744282

It ok if you guys think the camera is fine, but many others dont. These "camera too close" threads pop up constantly from what I see in the forum search.
I think some of it has to do with different people have different max zoom levels. After looking at that comparison thread and seeing his screenshots I know my game doesnt look like that. I can compare POE to Diablo 3 right now and Diablo 3 has a bigger field of view on my computer. Yes there are other issues with a higher priority but it doesnt mean we ignore other feedback. I would rank this up there as one of my most wanted quality of life additions to the game. It would just make it nicer to play. Actually I think this really is a bug since the field of view should be the same for everybody, no matter our resolution. Especially in competitive leagues where having a larger view area is beneficial. |

" I agree, and you'll see that I constantly call BS on meaningless visual enhancements that hurt performance, but this is a functional matter IMHO. One thing to bear in mind is that different classes, emphases and play styles can need different degrees of visual range. I don't mind the current view with Marauder, but with the ranger it does feel horribly claustrophobic. " This style of argument, attempting to undermine anothers intelligence, loyalty or character to support your position actually makes it apparent that you HAVE to because your position is weak overall. It's like those people who say that if you disagree with their position, you're un-American, or a communist or a sexist. Try using connected, rational arguments chained from observations of locally pertinent facts. |

I noticed that the source of the problem comes from the difference between aspect ratios. In other words PoE sucks if you're using 4:3 resolutions (800x600, 1024x768, 1600x1200) and here is why:
Spoiler
Notice the blue lines I added. Yes, 16:9 has that much more horizontal visibility! Or just look at the GUI right above the XP bar. And that I call BS. Now, I use 1600:900 which obviously leads to a distorted view on 4:3 so I had to reduce the vertical size of the screen throught the monitor's OSD to fix the disproportion. Which is nowhere near a solution, but now I can see enough stuff not to ragequit after 5 minutes. But now PoE looks similar to a movie, with two big black areas at the bottom and on the top of the screen. There you go, now you should be able to see the difference and act accordingly (increase zoom for 4:3). And to some of you saying that the zoom is enough because it's similar to the other games, you're missing that PoE has soooooo much more eye candy ewerywhere, that it's crying for more zoom. There are areas with trees, grass, rocks, fences, etc so dense that you virtually can't see anything else. All in all, 4:3 resolutions MUST have more zoom because 4:3 is cleary in a huge disadvantage at the moment. And even when it's done, I'll still argue to let us zoom even further because that's how I'd enjoy the game and I see some of you are deeply disagreeing with our initiative, but don't fotget, that it would not change the game for you in any way. You could keep playing with the ususal zoom and most importantly it would not increase the system requirements... Anyway, one step at a time, fix 4:3 please.
