[Retracted] WASD Movement
I'm sure the devs won't drop the current mouse controls in favor of WASD, it's trivial to make it an optional choice.

" This isn't BLC, this is a completely different type of game. I don't see what WASD controls would add to this game at all, and I just feel like you guys who want it added must have missed the point of PoE somewhere. Any way, I suppose it could never hurt to have the option to use WASD if one prefers stiff controls to the smoothness of using mouse. I just don't want GGG to bother with such things, that are clearly wrong for their game instead of focusing on the important stuff. Implementing WASD won't be as easy as some people seem to think. WASD controls would seal the deal for this kind of genre. As much as mouse movement is usable, WASD or ESDF would be far more responsive and accurate for some like me. Sure it would take some extra configuration but this kind of option is something that this genre is missing. Having that option makes it that much more unique, and really would make fans/customers happy. I would cheer.
The difference is mainly would you prefer precise X|Y|Z axis or would you prefer a more quick measure of movement without pointing and clicking in directions on the screen which would allow a much more preferable APM and much quicker response time (at least for some). It may be trivial to implement in a basic fashion, but one concern that comes to mind is how one would smooth the transitions for direction changes (particularly turning around).
There are also certain features presently in the game that would need to be reworked in order to work with keyboard-based movement (town portals come to mind). I have wandered through insanity;
I have walked the spiral out. Heard its twisted dreamed inanity In a whisper, in a shout. In the babbling cacophony The refrains are all the same: "[permutations of humanity] are unworthy of the name!" |

Mods have been made for Titan Quest and other games to make WASD work. You clearly think the original scheme is more comfortable, and that's great. I'm just advocating for a second option. |
