POE Needs Set Items, Epic Items and a new category

If you like the set bonus you will never take off the set. It's as simple as that and it's not good design as a result. The game is about managing the items you find, set items are just defeating to that.

If set items simply give a cosmetic bonus it might be fine but you guys are just asking for something that doesn't make sense.

Actually I do see some sense in introducing set items. Here a short quote what I'Ve psoted in the past:

"
Sets are unique items but they also have some cool extra stuff:
- offers a different angle when it comes to balancing, because you need to equip more than one item
- set items offer the possibility of some cool item lore (i.e. Trag-Oul set in D2)
- its fun to hunt for that last missing set item, because once you complete a set it feels really rewarding and... finished.

While you can make cool item lore with a bunch of unique items too, I think set items in general offer a really interesting approach concering item balancing, because the devs know what you will most likely equip in other slots... so in general: trying to make set items decent unique items with a set bonus = bad item design, but set items in general and their possibilities are in no way bad game design.

@BrianWeissmann
So, as far as I can tell from your post, the dev blog Chris made about unqiue items and their design goals still reflects your current position on the topic?
I do understand why you don't want unqiue items to be the "best-in-slot" choice but at the moment I really feel like unique items are underpowered.
Whenever I planed a new character in Diablo2 I'd not only plan the skill-tree but also the items I'd equip and tbh. I think that was lots of fun. Again I understand and to some extend agree that unique items shouldn't outright beat rare items but I'd really love to see some strong straight-forward unique items, so that you can plan builds and also plan your equippment.

So in short:
Godly rares > unique items > good rares...
Hate set items, it totally destroys gear diversity and turns the game into a bad pokemon style item hunt for specific sets which always end up being better than everything else.

Hope they never add sets personally.
The concept of epic/legendary items is stupid because it is nothing more than a unique that is less common and much better.

Set items? Sure.

It didnt do this to D2. I am confident that GGG can design set items in a way that doesnt destroy the game.

I am not against or support the idea of set items.
I think it can be done or fine ignoring it.

For me, i think GGG done lot of thing original in this game, having sets or charms or jewel will make it too D2 or similar to other ARPG in the market.

I was hoping that they could come out with much interesting ideas for the loots in future. I am still busy with what i want to hunt now, so no issue as of now.

PS: But is always great to see another different color of loots coming out from a boss fight or a chest.

Suggestion: New breed of purple items which is as rare as the uniques and will roll out 20-50% quality of items. Will need 5nos of each weapon/armor quality orbs to boost 5% of the quality. Stand alone items which may not be turn to rare/unique/magic/normal due to its supreme quality. May come with max 1 prefix and 2 suffices or less than that. This kind of gear are exceptionally good for players who looking to maximize the main stat of an items, rather than the mods.

It did for Torchlight 2. Unique is the same as set items, the only difference is that there is no specific buff for wearing groups of specific gear. The exception of course is that you can find unique pieces of gear with similar/same stats and stack the effect.

Not having set-pieces of gear unlocks the door for vastly superior overall diversity then having 2 or more pieces of gear dedicated to a set because of a particular set bonus.

Well i have nothing against adding cool new things and stuff to this awesome game but really..set items? I mean cmon suggest something that´s awesome and not such a old, thousand times reproduced item mechanism.

You have gems filled with unknown thaumaturgish magic and set items are your go? Look at the labotorys of piety and imagin what can be done with "pure" gems and your character. There you go.

Set items... pff .. imagination 0/10
What can never be lent or earned?
Somewhat, that devours everyone and everything:
A tree that rush. A bird that sings. It eat bones and smite the hardest stones.
Masticate every sword. Shatters every shrine. It defeat mighty kings and carry mountains on lightly wings.
What am i?

Well, I already suggested "random" set idea in some other topic.
I like it, so will put it once more:

Make set bonuses appear on Rare items!

For example, among other mods item can have:

Brutal: +2% weapon damage for any Brutal item including this.

So, wearing 4 "Brutal" rare items will net:
4 * 2 * 4 = 32% damage increase.

This can be balanced in terms of: what slot can have which bonus etc.

For 1-h weapons there could be mod:

Twin: +10% attack speed if dual wielded with other "Twin" weapon

And BOOOOM! We have instant sets. And a lot of diversity.

The plus note is because this is mods one item can belong to several sets.

Pros / cons anyone?

Zero creativity.

No thanks.

Set items as cosmetic items in MT store = approved.
I'm very glad that Set items won't be in PoE. Thank you!
