POE Needs Set Items, Epic Items and a new category
Chris as already stated why they do not want set items. Set items discourage the upgrading of individual items. If you find one rare that is better than one piece of the set you still won't trade up because of the set bonuses and they do not want that.
Also, there is no need for a new rarity of item. The game would need to be rebalanced around them since it is already balanced around rares being the most powerful items. And uniques are in a weird rarity spot. They are usually just good for niche builds or for certain level characters. As for the idea of class specific items: They would destroy what PoE is all about. It would limit the freedoms the current system allows. There would be fewer unique builds this way (even if the items are setup in a way that minimizes the loss of freedom). They said I was mad! They said it couldn't be done! But now who's mad?!?!

Set items constrain creativity because they encourage the use of homogenous equipment.

Sets?
Why? So that 99% of players run around wearing the same exact gear? Kick Ass and Chew Bubblegum - That's nature for you.

" That doesn't make any sense. First of all a set doesn't need to fill out all slots, second it obviously shouldn't be the most powerful gear by far. " I get the point, but I think making set items end-game only kind of eliminates the "don't break up the set"-thing. Also set-items could be designed around making very special builds if the player gets all pieces (like shapeshifting into another form i.e. as last set bonus or a new skill) @topic I actually would welcome the idea of set items, if they are designed well they definitly have a place in this game imo. :) |

I think that there should be only 6 set in the game. One for each class, I say this because there should be items that generally reinforce the personality of each class.
They would all be level 60 items, full sets including weapons. They wouldn't be over powered and could be altered with chaos orbs or maybe not. But the point of them would be a set of items specifically for that class. Wraeclast obviously has a history of warriors and whatever and I know that when a warrior was gearing up in the military or whatever back in the day (thousands of years ago) that they weren't just grabbing a frying pan and a leather belt to make a chest plate. There were actual items designed specifically for them. I think that's as far as set items should go though. They would basically reinforce the class personalities. Witch would have +spell % mana and mana regen and w/e shadow would have crit % and multiplier and ele. The items don't need to be overpowered, just strong enough to run maps with (barely). They would just be the armor set a soldier would get before going into battle (that kind of idea anyway). Leaves are falling all around, It's time I was on my way.
Thanks to you, I'm much obliged for such a pleasant stay. But now it's time for me to go. The autumn moon lights my way. For now I smell the rain, and with it pain, and it's headed my way. |

Sacred 1 had a good Ideas for sets. They were more like uniques as collecting a full set gave a unique mod that wasn't on any other item, not only that but they become one item as rings/amulets could be put into the sockets of the weapon(both part of the set).
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hx4ut2I5_n4 That weapon she's wielding is the full Orla set and that white frizzy stuff is produced by the weapon and not a skill/spell they have. |

one of my suggestions before was this
[ Extraordinary Items ] -EXTREMELY rare, so rare that when one drops its globally announced across the whole game. -Work exactly the same way as rares. -Different colored name. -High item level so mods on them will be high. General Racing Guide for Act 1

" This is the reason we have uniques. |
