What is a good amount of energy shield to have before you take CI?

I'm giving this a go in the 1 month race. It looked like a fun build, but I have a couple of questions. It's a bit difficult kinda starting out with mana problems and feel a little squishy I guess. Do you feel much stronger at a certain point? I'm only lvl 29 in this race atm, I imagine when I get the spell totem, that will help with skeleton's but is it normal to find the build a little cumbersome or challenging at first and then it progresses into a badass build?

Starting off will probably be a bit rough if you don't have any lower level items to help out / uniques but.. What supports do you have linked on the EK atm? Spell totem with summon skeletons definitely will help out and give you a lot of the space you need to deal with monsters. Use zombies if you can, try to curse if it's available. Temporal always helps out, specially on the faster more annoying enemies to kite or get away from. As for mana, mana leech will really help out a lot. If EK is costing a bit too much right now try to just link it with faster projectiles. This might not have been the best easiest race build but it does kill really fast and if you use a few tools, totem / curse you can keep most monsters away from you.

Around 2000 I think would be good. At this point you will probably have around 400-700 life depending on gear and the ES bonus after CI will probably end up giving more ES then your current life. If you can save up the 5 points to get them all at once or at least a few so you get some ES back when you lose your life from taking CI.

just started on this build, I'm guessing lower lvls is going to be quite tough to start with
My question is, at what lvl would you consider reasonable to start looking for decent gear..
