Chrome Extension to detect recipes in your inventory
" It is beyond me how you can justify going through with all of this and not even bothering to try and contact GGG about it whatsoever. " Agreed. I like the idea, and think the recipes currently are pretty boring, but the way the OP broadcasted this in global and went around the devs is suspicious to me. No thanks. |

"I don't see a mashup of freely available information as something that needs justification. I regret that you will not be using my software but I wish you well regardless. Last edited by HouseAbsolute#4068 on Apr 30, 2012, 9:24:19 PM

Imagine this scenario: You buy 20+ stash tabs. You save every unidentified rare that you won't be using in this stash. Chaos orbs are now worthless, and you paid to win ;/
Actually having to look through your items to find matches is what keeps recipes balanced IMO against drop rates. I know you can use a spreadsheet or whatever with the website's database, but this is still a human looking with eyeballs instead of automation. You can search for similar names in a spreadsheet, but you cannot make it find full sets of items worth a chaos orb or regal. Feel me? |
|
"Not really. It can hardly be an unfair advantage if it's freely available to anyone. And plus, there are plenty of other technical aides like spreadsheets you would probably not consider cheating. If you do, well, sorry, but we have different standards. If this were removing an actual challenge from the game, like target prioritization, I might feel bad. But it removes a tedious feature that adds no challenge except for one of time. I can't feel bad about that. Of course, GGG has the option of saying, yes, this is cheating. That would cost them my respect but this is their game after all. But you are not they. |

I'm speaking from a balance point of view. I agree that what you did here is in no way "cheating", but perhaps the recipes need some updating to prevent this type of disadvantage for say, people who don't use google chrome or copy the website's stash db to another program regularly

Its a tool, I utilize it, cheating is a heavy word.
Just because Chrome is one of the more advanced browsers that allows for this level of integration. If your complaining about not having Chrome, thats nothing more then your own fault. Just because I store 60 yellows in my stash doesn't mean I want to go hunt through Every bloody one to find the combination for a Orb of Alchemy, or other items, its a Bloody pain. This greatly simplifies crafting. Agreeable though that if this mod was fully officially supported by GGG, then it should be a bit more universal, I'm sure it could be supported in FF too, doubt IE has the capability. But It isn't so all I can say is, shame you don't have Chrome. | |
It's a free extension, for a free browser, for a free game, scraping data that is publicly available by viewing the website.
I was looking into making something like this, and others have mentioned the same. To be honest - I was/am curious to see if GGG will release any sort of public-API for their web-interface since the data is there already. If the data is available on the web - people will find a way to consume it and turn it into new things / mashups / tweaks. The extension is only consuming data - it's not changing anything in-game for your character. |

WOW! This is awesome!
thank you so much OP! I just got 8 Alchemy orbs! I don't understand why people are complaining and want it made for Firefox. Just install Chrome. what's your problem?! Last edited by JMacker#0362 on May 1, 2012, 1:00:29 AM

Hello.
So it turns out that this extension is actually causing a lot of backend traffic on our servers. I guess you are requesting each stash tab each time you fetch an update which has showed up as noticeable spikes in traffic on our master server. It would be good if you could write your plugin to have a button to request an update rather than polling like this. Thanks :) If you have account problems please contact support.
