I re-downloaded and patched and it works fine now. Still unsure what was causing the tiny window thing though :/

SOLVED!
Yes there is config file that sorts it all out. Screen settings in WINE do not seem to save the data correctly .

How to:

1. goto: Documents>My Games> Path of Exile
2. Edit production_Config.ini - change this bit(lines 7 & 8) to any numbers so that you can see the UI in the game:
resolution_height=173
resolution_width=192
3. Run the game, now you change settings in game.

From now on they should be saved correctly.

Got it running and it was fine for a minute, but then I entered a new zone and everything went crazy. I couldn't see my character or mobs or anything. I think I'm just going to stick with parallels for now. :\

It worked! Finally! For a few minutes...

I was in killing mobs having fun and... freeze... crash! When I launched again it was the tiny window.

Oh well. I give up.

Maybe, just maybe, the devs will get the mac version done.

God I am confused. New mac user here, do i need to download wine first to do this? And is it even worth doing at this point after seeing 16 pages of issues? Thanks:)

On your first launch the game patcher will see that you need to entire pack file (4+ GB's) and it will take a while (15-45+ minutes depending on your internet speed) to download but it only does this once. From then on you will just download the updates.

Note:
I'm not sure you can play in hard core league but I played on my Mac for many hours. I must say though you will not experience the full game like you do on a PC with all the graphical goodies enabled...
