" Spent 40 minutes talking to this guy answering all his questions, he then asked me to come and see my build, I told him "if you give me a map sure ill run one with you, he then raged and posted on here" After spending 40 minutes talking to him, he also asked me to refine his own shadow build for him.... LVL 84 qqing over 1 lvl 66 map so he can see how MY build works, lol priceless. forwarded to support@grindinggear.com and reported. Last edited by ElmoLiftsBro on Mar 20, 2013, 12:58:39 PM

Hey dude. Can you say which are the pros and cons of using a 2handed sword? When I saw the thread I tought like Why isn't he using DW or a weapon and a shield?
| |
" Well the pros and cons would be as follows. ---2H--- PROS: 6L Substantially more DPS towards late game weapons More valuable skill tree nodes (takes less points to see same results) Double strike better for life leech gem Better AOE skill support due to 5-6L CONS: Hard to find something with high APS and DPS, most sellers understand this and wont sell them for cheap, so you are limited to trying to buy a reaver swords with IAS + pure phys. ---1H DW--- PROS: Attacks per second Large variety of weapons Natural 15% block while dual wielding Cons: Never will have a 6L if you run Kaoms If you wanna run a kaoms you have to be ok with using a 4L only, this has major disadvantages such as an unreliable AOE. This will in turn effect you in higher level maps as if you run kaoms and DW you might run into issues not being able to clear or dying often due to lack of a good AOE. Less late game dps then 2H Less valuable skill tree nodes (takes more points to see same results) Due to lack of proper 5-6L AOE you will need to invest a substantial amount of nodes(10) into getting block% while dual wielding due to the fact you must use a close range skill like cleve which you must add a life gain on hit gem too, so your limited to a 4L with 2 predetermined gems(life gain on hit + cleve), so no real damage. as you can see the pros far outweigh the cons in favor of 2H. I will update this list as people give input and put it in the first post |

Updating initial post with stats on build.
Life 230% Armor 134% Resolute Technique Leather and Steel Elemental Adaptation Life Leech 2% Damage + percentage 151% (All damage nodes included) Attack speed increase 68% |

" Thanks. As I am a noob in Path of Exile, i use builds as guidelines, instead of making my own. That's why I asked the pros and cons, to see if I was gonna make some changes of my own. Not really I guess. | |
Heyas, I've tinkered with a similar build using 2H LS before, and I've noticed that you are linking Melee Physical Damage support to your LS. If you are using LS as a purely ranged ability, this support gem does nothing for the lightning projectiles as it only affects the initial melee hit. The modded damage will display on the tooltip but it doesn't affect the projectile damage, but I am sure you already know all of that.
I think you are better off slotting in an utility support such as Chance to Flee to enable your Lightning Projectiles to have a defensive element to them, or Iron Grip for more projectile damage since the current one is kinda useless for your playstyle :). I also think with your Strength stat, you should branch up from your Duelist Armor cluster to get Iron Grip (takes 7 nodes) for about ~60% boost to your projectiles, at the sacrifice of some low efficiency Weapon damage and Mana cost nodes. Alternatively, Static Blows is another option as well for the same cost if you do not like Iron Grip or are using Iron Grip gem. Just my 2cs :) Last edited by Reiv_Corvus on Mar 21, 2013, 7:15:52 AM

" Yes I am aware of the MPD gem and how the projectiles work, I feel as though half of my damage does come from close contact use of this ability so it is vital for me to have that damage boost. Lets talk about Iron grip and lets look at lightning strike and the way it's damage works. We all know this however I will recap, Lightning strike does 70% of its damage as a projectile; 35% as physical and 35% as lightning. Lets use my strength now as an example, I have 320 str at lvl 76, so Iron Grip dictates we should get a 64% increase, this 64% increase is applid to our projectiles only which is at a rate of 70%, this breaks down into a "raw 44% increase", now we take 44% divide it by 7 skill nodes and we are left with a 6.2% per skill node increase on our lightning strike projectile damage only. I feel at 6.2% per skill point the benefits, while they are decent, they are minimal overall taken into consideration they effect one of our two used skills on this build. The good side to taking Iron Grip is that we open up cheap life nodes. for 13 more point in life nodes we would get 84% more life, this is a large amount for 13 points To go to the top left most in our skill tree we get 60% for 11 points, we would have to make a sacrafice somewhere in our tree to compensate for 8 more points in order to complete the full life node circle. Now with all that said there is another factor here An Iron Grip Gem with 20 quality will provide you the same benefits but with an additional 15%, I think overall I have built 2 trees to mimic at 110 point which should give you an idea of "when we hit lvl 90 what does our next few lvls look like" WITH IRON GRIP

I feel as if iron grip is not justifying enough damage and end game potential to make that sacrafice, also if we get to a point where we can take out a few nodes of mana or anything else we get huge life benefits going into the marauder tree as you can see.
