Logout macro EXPLAINED

After reading so many players defending the logout macro and especially after seeing Zizaran say:
"Using a logout macro is allowed, as long as you have to press a button to logout yourself"
(as if the he has any authority to allow/disallow the usage of macros)
But, he has many followers and with the upcoming event sponsored by him, many other players will take his word as somewhat "official"

So I downloaded this macro and looked at the source code (I'm a programmer), the first thing I noticed was that there is an executable included!!!
Now, that is a big red flag, downloading any exe files and running them with your game is potentially dangerous for the safety of your account (key loggers).
In this case the exe was cports.exe and it comes from http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/cports.html
After reading more about it, I was very curious why would a program described as "CurrPorts v2.60 - Monitoring Opened TCP/IP network ports / connections" be involved in a logout macro?!
After all, everyone keeps saying that this logout macro is just like hitting "alt-f4" but faster!

So, let me explain to you guys what this logout macro does:
1- it assigns a key to "logout"
2- when you press the key it will run cports.exe
3- cports.exe will scan/find the running pathofexile.exe and close down all tcp/ip sockets
(actual command used in the macro code:
cportsCommand := "cports.exe /close * * * * PathOfExile_x64Steam.exe")

Actually, this logout macro has nothing to do with alt-f4, or even path of exile itself!
Hell, this logout macro even works for diablo (as it also states on the macro page itself).
Because it has nothing to do with the game itself, it simply runs another program to close connections to the server in a split sec.

That is why it is VERY EFFECTIVE at logging out and saving your HC char. It is much much faster than esc-logout.
When the tcp/ip socket to the server is closed, the sever immediately logs out your char. When you manually perform esc-logout the client needs to clean up some stuff, close sockets "the correct way", release memory assets and so on.
So even that will be slower than forcefully closing the ports by an external program! After that the game realizes the ports are closed and starts cleaning up stuff and then logout locally.

Now think about it....
This is a program, that interferes with the game executable directly.
Ask yourself, what is the difference between that and say, a memory scanning/changing program, like GG or CE ot the likes?
Or any more complicated hack with DLL injection and packet sniffing/changing elements?!
They all do same thing, interfere with another running program (aka hacking).

The way I see it, from a programming point of view, this is cheating, it's not really even a macro to automate key strokes.
If it was a real AHK macro to simply automate "alt-f4" or "esc then move cursor to logout box and click it" then maybe we could have the "is logout macro allowed" discussion!
But the way this, logout macro in particular, works is in the same category as hacks, surely against TOS/EULA.

IMHO, big LOL at you people who actually defend the usage of this utility.

Add a 2 second logout timer! Make POE hardcore again!

It's cheating and always has been.

Makes me more proud to have reached level 94 on HC without ever using a logout macro.

I just hope that at some point someone will actually add keylogger to this macro and screw accounts of everyone who is using it.

The general argument to this is the instability of PoE itself being a significant cause of death. Only justification I can find and, if you're playing HC but remove the fear of death, why play HC?

God I love my logout macro. It has saved my life so many times. When my life spikes down to 25% in an instant, I panic mash F4 and get a surge of adrenaline logging back in the check if I did it in time.

But the best part is I get to read these soft core cope threads.
