Cyclone

After playing with the changes on my L48 hardcore claw Shadow, it still feels inferior to basically any other option out there. My Duelist that uses Cleave is many times more effective in terms of killing speed and survivability. Cyclone just has too small an AE, doesn't do enough damage, takes way too much mana, and has too many other drawbacks. Mana cost really needs to be looked at as does AOE range, I feel like I have to stack ungodly amounts of support gems to even make this semi-viable but the mana cost just becomes brutal.

As it currently stands, I see no way this competes with other melee AE. Also, why doesn't it really benefit from dual wield? Seems odd, there's so few things that do. Dual Claw needs some love in the AE department.
my Cyclone do 3500 dmg and i rush 70+maps , use it with BM on skills not gem, pplz need to think , and not cry . after 10.4 its Roxx , thx GGG

Well, I don't know your build, but that master of the arena passive near the Duelist start increases the AoE a lot. One handers have a range of 4, master of the arena adds 2 to that, that's wopping 50% AoE increase for one handers. Personally I use a 2h weapon, so I have a range of 7 and the AoE is just fine. The survivability is waaaay higher than with Cleave, if you have somewhat decent movespeed very much of the melee attacks of the monsters will just miss you as you spin through them, and a lot of the ranged monsters also shoot there projectiles past you.
Considering mana cost, atm I use a BM gem with it, but if I replace that BM gem with a Reduced Mana Gem the 2% mana leech of my belt are enough to sustain it. If you have one with quality it's even less mana cost. That is of course with a phys damage build, which also allows you to use life leech from gear and save that socket for something else.
I love the way the skill works now. It required me to change my style and supports a bit, but it is so much more devastating. I'm using claws and before the change I was able to sustain BM 118 life/use without any LoH gem . Now, I had to replace one of my damage supports with LoH which cost me ~20% DPS, but since I'm able to direct it where I want it to go and stay on single targets easier, I kill things faster because the cyclone is staying where it will do the most damage and not moving back and forth. Great change!

Thanks for the reply. I'm trying to use it on my HC Shadow (claws), so Master of Arena is unfortunately quite a ways away, but I'm sure that'd help a lot. I was hoping Cyclone would be good for my Claw shadow because Whirling Blades is just... meh, compared to my "Red" characters with Cleave and Sweep, etc. Unfortunately, I think I'm just going to re-shelve this guy and play my half dozen more effective characters until Claws get something workable for AE. I'm not really complaining, just providing feedback. I don't know if Cyclone was supposed to be effective for a Claw shadow but right now, for me, it blows pretty hard compared to any other character I have. Damage is inferior, mana usage is way inferior, and it has other drawbacks the others just don't have to deal with.

You guys realize you can just hold the button down (mouse2 in my case) and it will automatically recast it so you keep spinning? The new min distance allows you do make tight circles now or long spins - very closely emulating the "channeling WW" everyone wanted.

At level 48, with 40 life regen, 28 LoH, and 4% leech x2, I can spin in place almost indefinitely with Blood Magic.

I do like the new distance traveled, it feels much more controllable. However, the entire "cast" is over much faster now, but still uses the same mana per cast. This means that now the skill chews through mana much faster. It's almost a nerf in the end due to the new mana usage rate.

I'd like to see a reduction in mana for the skill to correspond with the new speed/distance changes.

right now it is pointless spinning when you can just leap slam...

I agree 100%. putting my spinner on hold. Mana is silly high. Damage is meh. Distance and the random stopping are death in hardcore.
cyclone is broken
Is minic a gheibhean beal oscailt diog dunta!
yeah, I guess I'll shelve it aswell.
I'll still level a marauder for the 1 week race, just in case there's something interesting next patch...
