[0.11.0] Etup's EK Build

Xeppy,

So no issues with a dual wand setup? I might have to try that. My character has just hit the low 60's and I'm hunting upgrades. Namely a 5L chest, and a fresh wand/shield or wand/wand combo.

Even though I only have a 4L, I've decided to transition to the BM gem to run % auras. This is going fine but I think I need to change my links around. Currently I'm using:

EK - BM - Iron Will - Added Fire

I want Faster Projectiles back, so I'm thinking of dropping Added Fire. Looking at your setup, I'm wondering if it would be better to drop IW and Added Fire and swap to:

EK - BM - Faster Casting - Faster Projectiles

I'm curious what your experience is. I was under the impression that Iron Will was a key support indefinitely.

Yes, but Projectile Weakness adds piercing, which if you are using Faster Projectiles is far more effective as an overall AoE. Now, if you are grouped and you don't want to use the curse because of the knock back you can always swap out for Chain or Fork and use Vulnerability instead. The build is very adaptable.

Anyway, just came back to demonstrate why having Chernobog's Pillar and Devouring Totem for those nasty maps is a must.

Well, lets start from the top.

Dual wand is somewhat hard to set up, as you need plenty of armour and resists on your other gear pieces. I am lucky enough to have pretty nice gear, which allows me to have capped resists (barely), and 11,5k armour, all without using a shield. I would however suggest using a shield, rather than going dual wand. For some stupid reason, I'm trying to maximize my dps, rather than my survivability...

In my experience, Iron Will was always the lesser choice when deciding which support gems to use. When I was rocking a 4-link, I actually used EK - BM - Life Leach - Faster Casting/Faster Projectiles. I feel like the choice of support gems should compliment your gear. If your other equipment has projectile speed, use faster casting, and vice versa.

I'm pretty sure I used faster casting though all of my leveling, untill I got my hands ona 5-link. This is due to the fact that'd I would rather zoom in, attack once, QUICKLY, and then run around. If you just shoot longer, with proj speed, EK still takes 1 whole second to cast. It can be pretty dangerous, not being able to move the that long.

Hope it helps, sorry if I missed anything!

Should I scour and re-craft or go ahead with exalting this staff ? Its ilvl 79, and I have gotten the best level of mods for the Spell/Mana and the Crit multiplier mod (If I'm not mistaken).

If I should recraft, what should be the best mods I get on the magic rolls before regal ?

dual wands is imo the way to play ek, ok it takes a bit more on your gear/tree to get high resist and armour but its not unachievable, I go dual wands and I have everything slightly overcapped at 85% res, 90% if I switch to second weapon with a mace/shaffles shield thing when things get rough, I got about 24,500 armour, survivability doesnt seem an issue at all, and my gear is not the best gear on the server by a long way. Its a rare occasion I need to switch to shield.

I find Ek just too slow without the dual cast speed stats, my wands are painfully average, the spell damage prefix is 55% on one and 44% on the other but my dps is about 9500 and having dual wands means its fairly easy to get projectile speed on a wand as well as the gem so I can hit mobs off the side of the screen. I too am a fan of cast speed over another damage gem, because of the phys/armour situation damage gaining through attack speed in the phys world is not worth as much as it seems on paper but I think in practice, as said, you get more survivability through the mobility of fast attacking, it makes phys reflect much less of a problem too as you can afford to peck at packs with lower damage hits, reducing your attack speed with your button pressing (or swapping in item rarity on reflect maps as a means of gimping yourself with benefits). More important imo it just makes it more fun, move fast, spam fast, enjoy.

I believe you can get up to 108 spell damage on staffs.

The chance to Vaal +1% maximum resists on an amulet is less than 1/300.

vulnerability is far superior than projectile weakness. the damage it provides blows every other curse away. and why would anyone use chain or fork? worst support gems for ek.

The 44% from 20/20 Vulnerability only affects the physical damage TAKEN by mobs and not any elemental damage from Hatred or Added Fire because those are conversions calculated when the spell is cast not when it lands.

With just Hatred running and assuming Inner Force passives it adds 32% cold damage to EK or total EK damage is 132% of base physical.

With 20/20 Vulnerability it is 100%x(1.44)+32% = 176% total EK damage from base physical.
With 20/20 Projectile Weakness it is (100%+32%)(1.34) = 176.88% total EK damage from base physical. Added Fire would be even higher.

The only reason Vulnerability has a 'slight' DPS advantage is how armor mitigation is calculated for physical damage, but as I said the effectiveness of Projectile Weakness is superior due to piercing, which allowing you to AoE any number of mobs instead of letting the front ones be meat shields.
